Why is Louisville not on probation? I mean, they're caught red handed cheating their a$$es off.
The Big East is NOT the Big East. They should have to put a * on their logo.
I remember the Dave Currey/Tony Yates years. Don't tell me I'm settling for mediocrity with Cronin. I know mediocrity when I see it.
I hate basketball arena PA announcers that think they're part of "the show". Just say what you gotta say and shut up.

ESPN has had a love affair with Duke/UNC that goes back a long way. Former ESPN President John Skipper was a UNC grad. Yes, ESPN is based on Bristol, CT but they have a significant presence in North Carolina, with offices in Charlotte that have been present since 1998. ESPN U, ESPN Events and the SEC Network currently have their corporate offices there. Programming is often packaged in studios there.

Agree the Big East is not the Big East we were in in, but you are not going to hear that, especially in this town since such an admission would be a blow to Xavier.
You actually think that's the reason ESPN promotes Duke-UNC? Come on. It's a great rivalry, the schools are right next to each other, one's private and the other's public, they are both in the top 10 at the moment, oh and they are two of the best programs of all time. There are other great rivalries, sure, but it deserves its status.

I don't deny the success of those two programs and agree it is a great rivalry. They were great 25 years ago as well but they weren't forced down your throat 24/7.

Eh I think it feels a bit forced. Probably because I don’t live in NC, but I don’t see the hatred like Alabama-Auburn, Florida St.-The U, OSU-Mich, etc. Then again those are all football.
Maybe people aren’t as nuts when it comes to basketball eh never mind UC-Xavier. Id agree Duke-UNC feels forced almost a bit like OSU-Mich football. They’ve both lost their luster a bit.

This Board is like a bunch of Karl Lagerfelds: "I hate intellectual conversation with intellectuals because I only care about my opinion."
The problem is there's some really dumb stuff said on this board. And a lot of repetitive whining.

Seems to me, more here are complaining about the hype from ESPN for UNC/Duke than the quality of their considerable traditions and current team performances which are both elite.
It really is over the top when ESPN constantly wedges that graphic over game action from screen left. And I don't like to watch a broadcast with Dickie V. anymore. Over time, he's become a caricature of himself with his worshipful attitude toward "his" Blue Devils.
It will be interesting to see the ratings for that particular game after all the promotion. Of course it won't touch a regular season college football rivalry game for viewership.

Love Carolina v. Duke. Game delivers so often. Can't wait to watch again.
Sometimes you just have to ignore the hype machines. Don't let it ruin two really fun teams to watch, that both matter a ton in college basketball.

Gary Clark, Kyle Washington, Yancy Gates, and Octavius Ellis would all like a word.

I'm glad someone else feels that way. We are closing in on 90 wins over the past 3 years. There are a lot of "good" programs that don't have that in their last 4 seasons.
I am honestly trying to remember. Did Tony Yates get much above 90 wins in his total tenure? (I am lazy, I could probably have looked it up.)
I like a lot of other comments on this thread also.

Tony Yates coached all five years I attended UC. I do not wish that nightmare on anybody.
Plus the football team was horrid back then. I SO envy today's students at UC.

I look forward to both games because it is THE GAME down here in the great state of North Carolina. Folks get amped up and the word "hatred" is often used depending on if you're a Dook fan or a Tar Heel. The only way I can describe is to take the intensity of the Cincinnati-Xavier game and apply it to a statewide interest. People talk the game at home, work, school, church, etc. Lowest price tickets for the game tonight at Cameron Indoor were going for $2,500 a pop. I also look forward to it because I don't have to scream, shat, cuss, get stomach burn, etc. while watching because my team aint playin'.
Anywho, I agree with Mark...this is quality basketball between two storied programs with top notch coaching. IMHO there is no better college home court atmosphere like Cameron. I've been there once to watch a women's Duke-UNC game and that was intense. There isn't a bad seat in the place - about 9,600 capacity. Anyone remember a few years back when Tyler Hansbrough took the elbow to his snoz and looked like Rocky Balboa with the blood streaming down his face? Hype and pomp aside, it will be a war.

I love me some Duke-UNC. I am a college hoops junky so I appreciate the hell out of these games. Plus, I know that UK fans cannot stand both of these teams and hate that this game gets more hype than any of their games. The enemy of my enemy is my friend!

I was watching UNC-Duke and I guess Mick has my thinking warped. Instead of noticing the shooting or the drives to the basket, I kept scoffing at the lack of defense.

Dukes defense consistent of trapping, reaching, and slapping at the ball. Granted they got down but that was awful to watch.

Most of it was pace. UNC held Duke to .83 points per possession which is exception particularly against an elite offense.
Duke's defense wasn't as elite as they normally are but missing Zion will do that. They still held a team that scores 1.19 points per possession (with completion adjustments) to 1.01 points per possession. Unc turned the game into the incredibly fast up and down scramble they love so there were a good amount of points but they played great defense and duke's wasn't that bad.

Ah, yes. Living near Ann Arbor, I get to hear people talk about the untamed wilderness that is the Upper Peninsula all the time.
When Ohio prevailed over Michigan in the great Toledo War, Ohio got Toledo and Michigan was compensated with the Upper Peninsula. Ohio lost out big time on that deal.
