Rooting for these guys to finish at the rim.
Wish they just go up and attack the rim; quit hesitanting in fear of getting their shot blocked.
This. They are so bad at point blank range. I hate to use the word but 'soft' comes to mind with the way they are when they have the ball within 2 feet of the rim.

Yup...Brooks and Scott are the anti-Maxiell and Hicks when it comes to having the ball in their hands in the paint.

Exactly. Those guys wanted to out muscle you, run you over, anything to get a bucket or get fouled. These guys now tend to fade away and seem to try to avoid contact any chance they get. Very frustrating to see that out of guys their size with the ball that close to the rim.

I agree; our inside guys seem to be more finesse players than bangers.
To their credit, I think Clark and Washington learned last year the best way to deal with Tacko Fall was to drive with the ball right at him and draw a shooting foul. Here's hoping Scott and Brooks use that same strategy Thursday night...and can hit their free throws; something Clark and Washington also did with some regularity.

Most of the blame comes from the revised student seating which isn’t doing the trick in creating a hostile environment. The other issue is that the band and cheer leaders need way more play time than they get. More pep tunes, pop music, fight songs, down the drive, cheers, taunts, and everything else they used to do 15 to 20 year ago. The band barely plays now, heck the don’t even play the long version of the fight song with the Bearcat spellout anymore. Maybe the new band director is part of the problem but the lack of interaction coming from the band and cheerleaders to the students and then to the rest of the crowd is a large part of the problem.
Agree. Now, the younger crowd will tell us the band and pop music is for old white people, but to be honest blaring the hip-hop and dance music 24/7 so loud people can barely hear one another talk isn't helping fire anyone up in the building either.
Just like with football, one of the things that sets it apart is the traditions, the pageantry, the band, cheerleaders, student sections, etc.
Yes, agreed. I don't know if its just in the upper sections, but the music is way too loud, and not really fan friendly music, just random hip hop songs. This arena could really kick ass, but they still need some tweaking in my opinion.
I'm glad somebody else mentioned this. I've thought this all year. I sit in 204 and the music is just crazy loud. Too loud.
Three young boys sat with their dad behind me. I'd assume their ages were 8-10. One kept holding his hands over his ears and another asked his father all game "why is it so loud?"
During timeouts and halftime I enjoy talking to my buddy about the game, players and strategy but it basically impossible.
I concur. I wrote to Mike Bohn after attending the UCLA game about this very subject. I commended him for the arena overall. He was gracious to reply and said they were still tweaking the system to eliminate "hot spots".
But the recorded music in the upper bowl was just painfully loud; pre-game and during every timeout. My ears were ringing the next morning--showing my age, but I was having flashbacks to an Emerson, Lake and Palmer concert. I just wouldn't bring young children and expose them to that current decibel level. And that's a problem when we want young families attending.
I mostly enjoy loud music but as others have said, the band and cheerleaders have been marginalized in the use of an excessive amount of recorded music. The fan base (customer base) is composed of multiple generations and the music mix should reflect that to a certain degree.
At least the ELP concert was live music (a 20-min Tarkus or Karn Evil 9 jam session doesn't sound too bad). I don't understand why canned music has to be that loud, especially, like other posters have said, when I'd prefer to hear the band (live music, if you haven't noticed a theme here) and/or discuss the game with seatmates during timeouts. It actually reminds me of many wedding receptions where you have to almost leave the hall to have a conversation with a friend or relative you rarely get to see. And yeah, if my ears are ringing, I don't want to think about what it's doing to the kids' hearing.
