We knew the wins would be few and far between this year.
Sound, tough, high IQ, fundamental basketball is a reasonable goal/expectation, regardless of who is on the floor
Along with hard work.
And observable improvement.
I'd be (quite) happy with that.
Just....PLEASE....enough of playing the victim

Two key injuries could explain some of the misery this season, but it's still a bit alarming to see us land as a bottom feeder. And last year we were projected to be MAC champs but didn't even get to Cleveland. I mean we blew a 27-4 lead and lost in the first round in Kzoo.
I saw a couple posts about how Hawkins should stay or walk on his own terms. But when contract review comes up, KB's criteria should focus only on his overall body of work, performance metrics, and future vision. As much as he's a likable "friend of WMU" and a cornerstone of Bronco athletics for 17 years, this shouldn't play a key role in the decision-making process. It's not how it's done in the (admittedly cold) business world.
Should make for interesting conversation fodder in the off-season. There are plenty of obvious parallels here to 2012 Cubit, and looks like (yet again) a divided fan base on whether he should go or not.
I could see another shorter extension because I can't imagine a usual one coming off a 6-10 win season 5 years removed from a conference title. It might just be kicking the can, though. There isn't much fan interest and I wonder how he'll get the facilities everyone thinks he needs to be successful in that case

If WMU hires the Fleck of b-ball, it will be interesting to see the division of fans form.

RE: Hawk, contract???
I want to see Hawk as our AD and Saddi as the leader of the basketball program. It's just how it has to be when his current contract ends.

Look up Duquesne's current coach.
Akron's facilities are ranked behind WMU's by the current league coaches, and he had the best program in the MAC for years.
Akron has basketball and volleyball using its fieldhouse plus it has a 1,800 square foot training facility, 100,000 square foot indoor facility including track, full size football field and practice areas for all sports.
UA has basketball, volleyball, track, dance team, cheerleaders which are alloted in two hour slots to each team. If the facilities guy is missing per union agreement no one can retract the seats at UA so WMU becomes the only D1 school with one court and two baskets to practice.
Don't know who is "rating" Akron facilities but maybe they should visit the campus. If anyone thinks facilities don't matter for D1 recruits you aren't paying attention or dont' know any D1 bound families or players.

As per the link (another thread)
MAC head coaches were polled.

I never (once) heard Porter Moser whine.
You?
Given that Hawk's contract runs through next year, maybe he can leverage the issue.
You know
Threaten to leave WMU unless the administration gives him a practice facility.

RE: Hawk, contract???
Quote:KB retires, Hawk takes over AD, and Saddi slides in as head ball coach. Ideal scenario.
KB will stay as AD for the next 7 years, and so will Hawk. Saddi will plead to be HC at only $400k/yr to come back to his college home, Hawk will recommend that to KB, but KB insists Hawk stays for a 7 year contract extension instead, whether he likes it or not. That's the more likely scenario.

RE: Hawk, contract???
My total hunch is that KB will extend Hawk one year to the 2020-21 season.
It gives him a vote of confidence and a bit of a pass insofar as the injuries. But at the same time, with it only being a 1 year extension, lets him know he's on a tight leash next year and he'd better show substantial improvement.
It'll understandably be very hard sell to the fan base if he literally goes 0-for-MAC.
Hawk's decent body of work will give him some consideration. But at the same time, last season was a pretty bad blemish on his resume: Projected as MAC champs but went .500 in the conference and lost (at home) in the first round of the MAC tourney.

I completely agree with this.
