RE: Sun Belt 2019 Pre-Spring Rankings
Quote:3. Georgia Southern Eagles
Coming off a strong season, the Georgia Southern running game gets back option wizard Shai Werts to run the whole thing, but the top two running backs are done. Three of the O linemen are back, and while the passing attack is along for the ride, all the wide receivers return. The 3-4 defense is full of veterans, but the secondary needs to replace the safeties.
Pretty weak analysis. Person is only looking at roster turnover. Losing Garrett and Fields is not a bad thing, Logan Wright and Wesley Kennedy will easily replace and improve the position.

App St will be the top favorite IMO. That’s ok, I prefer being the hunter rather than the hunted...

The author is right about our running game, Evans is probably top starting back in the conference, and he might not be the best back on our team, can’t wait to unleash Peoples on the conference.

No, they don’t. Unless both take massive jumps.

Agreed. Fields took a big step backwards over the years (probably has a lot to do with the Summers experiment). And while Garrett was talented, he never stood out as a breakaway guy. Logan Wright looks like he'll be the #1 back, and I'm sure we'll keep using WKIII just as often as we can. Throw in guys like Speedy, and I think our running game will be a good bit better than it was this year. That's my analysis anyway, for whatever that's worth.

I’d have to agree with another poster. I’d rather be the hunter than the hunted. I think we have a good shot at dominating this year, but I don’t want our players thinking we are all that. If we do, we get ahead of ourselves and we start playing like ****... but Zac Thomas is as good, if not better, than Taylor Lamb. Zac has the skills we need to drive us to multiple championships and landmark potential for new records, the dudes just that good

maybe he should say that some student in the stands yelled a racist remark at him one time and that he needs to be eligible to play immediately because of hardship.

I would hope that we schedule App and southern early this year when were healthy that way we knock them off early and don't have to worry about injuries. Can't let App get the best of us this year.
I think its a no brainer that we could expect App, Troy, and southern the top 3 in the east, but wouldn't surprise me if coastal makes a run now that they have experience within the conference.

Coastal has coaching dysfunction right now, so I'm not sure how effective they will be next year.

I'm not sure I'm sold on Wright - he seems to have gotten a very high percentage of his production against the weaker teams. You're out of your mind on Kennedy, though. I hate that we have to choose between putting him at back or at slot.
As for the article, I agree with the order of finish, but I think you can put App, Troy, and GS in any permutation you want and it's plausible. I would say there's a good chance that one of Troy or App will drop off some (that's just the way coaching transitions go). Both programs had coaches that hung around long time and could wait until they had their guy ready to go to push them aside. Now they both had to hire real with time constraints. Will be an interesting race in the east.

Next year might not be the year CCU breaks out, but I wouldn't bet too much money against Chadwell in South Carolina. He has taken a worse program to good heights. I don't see why he wouldn't at Coastal, who has more resources and a better name than CSU

To me, Thomas is probably the third best QB in the Sun Belt behind Ellington and Smith. Depending on the competition aspect of Training Camp with the new coaching staff, he may get beat out by Baldwin. Baldwin coming from IMG, and playing 3 years in Los Angeles, should be ready to go if needed. The offense he ran at IMG seems to be in line with what Drink will try to run so the only question will be how the speed of the game is different.
Most people like to look to the Brown situation when evaluating Baldwin but the backgrounds of these guys couldn't be more different.

If Coastal continues to invest in their facilities and can actually get some butts in the seats from the surrounding community, they could be a force in the recruiting world. I'm just not sold on Chadwell as a FBS coach. Coastal could attract a solid coach with a strong recruiting background to take Coastal to the level they are capable of. Definitely a high ceiling school if the tools are put in place.

Does he have to sit out? Dude has the look of a legit NFL running back. Ran your style of offense in high school, looks to have decent speed. I'm not positive he is better than Fields though, honestly. Much of your offenses success is dependent upon coaching adjustments to what the defense is trying to take away and the ability of the offensive line to get to their mark.
However, with Wright and King, it looks like you guys finally have a legit top flight (pun) running back group in the G5.
