And the other man he wants gone and can’t be trusted, Frazier, is getting accolades for hiring Hammock. Great time to be a Huskie, no gloom and doom-mongering for the Maddawg agenda

Yeah, I noticed that. I am glad Hammock sidestepped it and didn’t fall into the trap that Frazier set bringing that up. Hammock has plenty of work to do just to put his staff and team together and win games. Western Michigan and Toledo are not cupcakes we are going to walk over every year en route to a NY6 game.

Further, we have budgetary issues and need money games that we don’t have much chance to win. Nebraska seemed to turn a corner the second part of this year and things could be ugly in Lincoln and Utah next year, especially with new coaches and potentially new schemes. Not sure what the new coaching staff will cost, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see us go to two money games and you can pretty much kiss those NY6 pipe dreams good bye.

Carey managed to collect 4 Big 10 wins over Iowa with Jordan Lynch, Purdue, Northwestern before their recent run, and catching Nebraska while they were down. I’m not sure we will see 4 more Big 10 wins in the next 6 years.

I just hope there is no "Fire Hammock" thread after our first loss.

There will be a transition period and all may not run smooth at first.

That being said, Hammock is a great choice who has a personal connection to NIU and is bringing positivity and renewed hope for the future.

LOL I was wondering what the over/under is on the first post with that phrase but I didn't want to go there.

Even the staunchest Carey supporters admitted their Coach was dour with both the media and the fanbase and did little to further NIU football outside the gridiron.

Hammock has that passion, drive, and love for DeKalb that we have all been craving to see out of our coach. He won't get a pass forever if the team doesn't perform on the field, but I don't think anyone will be ready to ship him to Siberia if it takes a minute to get going.

Let's enjoy this. There is nothing to divide us at the moment. Not sure how long it is going to last, but it is refreshing. Spring camp and who winds up under center will probably change all that!

No the pro Carey guys would never admit your statement above. I hope they are seeing this sample size of buzz and maybe realizing my statements that ex players, alumni, and mainstream fans had bailed on this team because of snot rod

I am excited about Hammock, I think this was the best move for the program. I think Carey leaving is good for the program in the long run, but I am not going to pile on the guy or anything like that. I know people have mentioned that there will be growing pains with a new scheme and new coach and I agree, but this rebuilding was coming even if Carey was here. NIU has the least talent on the roster headed into next season that I can remember in quite some time. It does feel better knowing the person steering the ship is different though to begin the rebuild.

Not true. Many people that supported him, including me have said he improved his media and public relations over time. Wasn’t perfect by any means. Hammock is a different type of guy and comes in at the right time. He seems to be the right guy to unite the fans and alumni base. Now it’s up to the fans to step up and support the program again.

For as much hate the niu fans have for Rod, just imagine what it would be like if he hadn't won as much as he did! I am glad to see Hammock as much as the next guy, but I hope down the road if Rod ever returns to Huskie Stadium the fans show him some love for the accomplishments he had here.

Rod had his share of blunders, but sht, Novak had 3rd & 33, Dominic freaking Hixon....

I completely disagree. This team has potential All-MAC players in a bunch of positions: Harbs, Tears, Pugh, Vero Beach... and a few more who will hopefully step up. I’d be disappointed if we didn’t win 10 games next year. The key is obviously the QB position. If we can get All-MAC play from the QB, look out!

Finally watched the press conference. Hammock might be the best recruiting head coach we have ever had. If we get solid coaches (like most of are coaches have been), he will improve the talent then they just have to get the kids to realize their potential.

Agreed. This team has lots of talent and should be a strong contender for the MAC championship for at least the next two years.

No way a Rebuild. That is just nuts. Good Oline depth even with one transfer, best interior D Line in many years, Good depth at LB and safety, ... Biggest loss is the high quality D ends and one issue is lack of DB talent. A few tweaks to get a legitimate D1 FBS offense, and new coach should be in business. 10 game could be a stretch, but at least 7-5 with a bowl should be readily attainable.

Please don't let him drag you into his new fascination of that the team is now "rebuilding". He can't be on repeat about Carey anymore, so this will be his new thing. If no one comments on him we won't have to hear about it.

RE: Press conference
On paper, NIU should be a lot better than it was last year. There are 7 returning starters on each side of the ball. Hopefully, Hammock makes it his No. 1 priority to solve the QB problem and improve the offense. I think the DBs will be fine. They were solid all year except for the bowl game but they were on vacation mode. McKie and a couple otheres stepped up. We’ll miss Sutton’s playmaking and will have to make due without his spectacular strip sacks, sacks, and TFLs but there’s a ton of talent on defense still. We should dominate the MAC.

Wouldnt call Frazier’s comments a trap. What’s he supposed to say? That we only want to be bowl eligible? Pres Freeman said the same thing since the PC. Hammock did an outstanding job with his answers but the AD is supposed to hype the program. The Coach is the one that is tasked with carrying out that vision.

You guys ever heard of Marcellus Moore out if Plainfield North? Supposedly he's a top track guy in the country that is a RB prospect. Hammock says he wants dynamic players. https://247sports.com/Recruitment/Marcel...Interests/

I think Hammock has tweeted more in the last 4 days than Carey tweeted in the last 4 years (aside from standard retweeting).
