Basketball vs. UTSA
Women get their first home game in almost a month and just the sixth home game of the season in 15 overall games. The UTSA women aren't great and really, this is a game we should win by double figures (same with UTEP on Saturday, but then after that, the schedule gets tougher). But our women seem to have a habit of struggling for a quarter here or a quarter there, so it will probably end up closer than we'd like.
The men are at UTSA and even though the UTSA men are under .500 on the season, they're on a 5-game win streak and have played much better since their leading scorer returned from an early-season injury. Of the three games the men play on the road in a row, I think UTEP might be our best chance at a win.
BTW, UH's men lost its first game of the season last night at Temple, so the Rice men now have fewer losses in 2019 than the UH men FWIW.

Road wins are tough. This game wold be a huge win if they can play tough defense and out rebound the Roadrunners.

If you look at UTSA wins, 2 are against UTEP and 1 is against Incatnate Word. The other two wins are not impressive either.

Kayjay -- Are you suggesting the Rice women are playing tonight in San Antonio? It's a home game. I hope to be there.

Men play in San Antonio. Women play at Rice.

Less than 200 people at the women's game 5 mins before tip-off.

Tough situation considering they haven't had a home game in like 30 days. But we have historically bad crowds regardless of men/women for basically all of our Thursday games. There were times last season where the guys would come out of the tunnel and you could hear people having individual conversations in the stands.

Mullins guarding Jackson. Big assignment. Will show us how good a defender he really is.

10-7 UTSA at the first media. Pretty slow start. UTSA is basically Jackson + a bunch of other okay/bad players. If you let him score his 30, they'll beat you. Keep him in check and you'll win.

Crowd around 500 now. Students are showing up.

Men not rebounding, not sticking to assignments, sloppy everywhere. This really isn't a good UTSA team, either. 22-17 UTSA at the under-12.

Not bad for a women’s Thursday game. Seemed like they were promoting it hard. I considered coming but I’d rather watch the men’s game on TV.
Murphy has found his stroke after a slow start to the season shooting.

Rice women lead 28-15 after Q1. UTSA made a 3 at the buzzer.

Nick Allen getting open shots is a problem, just because shooting is basically all he can do on a basketball court.*
*as he awkwardly drives and scores, of course

Nicole just had a sweet and 1 play. She also now has the record for 3 pointers made.

I started a separated thread for the women's game.

This is a winnable road game, not impressed by UTSA.

Good fight by the guys, Nowhere near their A game on either end but they're only down 5.

Winning on the road is hard, especially for such a young team. Part of the growing process.
