Agree with some posts. Now is the time to make a change in sports if UT is going to do it. There are a number of options; women's crew should be looked at. Hockey, not an option due to cost. BGSUcks has a long history with the puck and it is a burden for them I suspect.
They're fully funded through alumni donation/development. I believe the current GMs of both Stanley Cup teams are BGSU grads and have each given back nearly $500,000 to the program. If we could get to THAT level (which would take years obviously), it would be no more cost prohibitive than any other one of our sports, especially considering the scholarship numbers are no different. Hell, I bet with Joe Napoli on the Business Advisory Board and involved so much with the University, we could get a pretty sweet deal at The Hunt.

Women don't (anymore) play different rules in basketball or soccer or the like, why a completely different sport with bats? Would probably bring more fans into the sport, and also save costs for universities because they wouldn't need 2 sets of facilities. As I understand it, women play baseball in many countries in Asia and Europe, so why not the US?
Personally, I'm not a baseball fan, but if it is gonna stay around, make it an inclusive sport.
Not exactly what I said. But to use the sports you mentioned as an example, what if NCAA had men's tennis, but only women's racketball? That would certainly be odd, wouldn't it?
If people (men or women) want to keep playing softball, that's fine for them. But, right now women don't even have the option of playing baseball on a competitive basis in HS or college. It's not like there's zero interest, as the US fields a national women's baseball team that competes in international events, and there have been women players who have tried to break into professional men's leagues, but those are very limited options only the best and most determined players can pursue. I would think interest would grow if the option was there.

Probably why he prefaced it with “IMO”. The rules are pretty similar but strength is a huge factor. Women’s bases are 30’ shorter and the 60’6” mound to plate versus 43’ might be a pretty big challenge. Temporary fences would be needed if you expected more than a handful of HRs per season. Not a lot of Erin Judges out there. Lots more elbow injuries from breaking pitches, too. Might be easier to go the other way and transition men’s baseball to softball. I can definitely see that working.
Women’s baseball appears to be less standard than men’s but the dimensions I found did differ from the men’s which might make joint field use challenging.
Perhaps, but I know that they have played the women's baseball world series (which is now I think the women's world cup) in MLB stadiums like Skydome in Toronto.
Also, I looked up the rules for the old All-American Girls League (you know the one started during WWII of "A League of Their Own" fame.) Although they started out playing by different rules on a smaller diamond, by the end they were playing by pretty much the same rules and same diamond as the men (60' mound-to-plate, 85' bases.) That was 60 years ago. So it seems not unreasonable that women could play on a regulation diamond today.
Would it be the exact same game as men, probably not, but back in the day some folks used to think women needed shorter rims in basketball or that there shouldn't be contact allowed in some women's sports, or other changes. Anyone remember the 6-on-6 basketball a couple states used to have girls play? (3 players played offense, and 3 played defense and no player could cross half-court.) That sure seems silly looking back from the lens of today's women's basketball.

I saw those old pro Women’s field dimensions and wondered if they shortened it up that little bit to appease men. 6” is hardly significant. Still, I think it would be every bit as much or more a defensive game with very few long balls if you had women play the same field as men. And I think Iowa was the last state to have 6-6 championships, maybe into the early 70s.
**** I checked. Iowa played HS 6 on 6 until 1993, Oklahoma until 1994.

So we sign kids in Ohio that have only played 6 months a years to scholarships when we could give scholarships to kids from the south that play year round. Since none of these recruiting trips look longer that a couple hours we must just recruit where it is convienient
I know nothing about developing a baseball program in the MAC but not leaving a couple hour radius of Toledo seems flawed
Look at Kent roster
Ohio sure
Pennsylvania
Indiana
Wisconsin
Illinois
But also
Texas
Georgia
North Carolina
Florida.

Resources my dude...we have none to give. That's all that can be done on a paltry recruiting budget, with an off-campus chainlink stadium, and a pretty bad conference.

Scratch baseball... Bring in men’s soccer and or women’s lacrosse...
The Stan Sanders years have been long gone... Resurecting that with millions towards new facilities/stadiums may seem like a waste of $$$...
Having a solid wrestling program brought back, along with indoor track & field might also be an option...

UT already has an indoor T&F season...but I've always wondered why we decided to nix wrestling but keep baseball and tennis. Men's soccer would be interesting, and is generally a low-cost addition since it only requires 9.9 scholarships and would utilize the same facilities as women's soccer. Really, having softball and baseball for a zero revenue AD is a no-win scenario, simply with how much space and scholarship money those sports take up with no redundant facilities.
