The time it is going to take LU to get really good, to have difficulty in scheduling is years, many years away. The recent conversation is the reverse. That LU has nothing to gain by playing JMU now. JMU is that good and LU is trying to advance to being consistent, which immediately comes after being good, to "get really good".

Same boat we're in, only they're putting more resources behind the move to make it happen. If you want to be big time, you have to act like it. They're doing that.

Who is?

Liberty. Trying to get really good. So good nobody will schedule you good. And trying to be consistently good. Both of us have been "good" at some point, the trick is doing it consistently. ODU hasn't been able to do that yet. The jury is still out on LU.

Sorry. I was cloudy the first time I read it. Seemed like you were talking about JMU, which is clearly wrong to me now

The latest on the JMU boards:
UCONN basketball to the Big East, and football going Indie or dropping back to FCS, opening a spot in the AAC for JMU.

The AAC is trying to persuade everyone that it is a Power Conference. Would adding JMU enhance that perception?

Is UCONN a private catholic school? (The answer is no.) Why would the big east take them?

Simple, they add value to the league. They have two of the best (non-P5) basketball programs and fanbases. They have a women's program people actually tune in to watch. They are a rarity amongst the teams that would want to join the Big East.

They would absolutely take them. UCONN has a deep history with all those programs, the name recognition and successful men’s and women’s B.B. programs. The question is does UCONN want to deemphasize football by going Indy or FCS. Their goal is the ACC or Big10 and I’m sure they feel there’s a better chance of getting there from the AAC. As long as the money gap and B.B. quality gap between the two leagues doesn’t grow they’ll stay where they are but that means a substantial raise in AAC TV revenue this renegotiation because UCONNs “war chest” payments from the BE split runs out this year or next. My guess is that they stay. If some members of the AAC go to power conferences and they’re not among them then they’ll jump back to the Big East for sure though.

UConn my very well go to the Big East and make football indy, but that doesn't mean a spot opens for JMU. They'd take UMass, ODU, App St, Charlotte, Buffalo, Marshall or So Miss before JMU.

With the success of their athletic program, I would have to assume that Buffalo is the lead candidate. This is just a guess.

I think you are saying that only because Buffalo and it's surrounding area has a population of 10+ times Harrisonburg's. I think you are being insensitive to truck stop communities all across this great nation.

Yes. And all those privates also paid a big number to take the logo and separate away from the publics. But let's follow this conversation along its path. Entertaining stuff.

I think it was the more football centric and academics of some of the additions they didn't like rather than being public. They weren't running away from West Virginia & Pitt like they were ECU. UCONN was a founding member of the BE. They'd be welcomed back.

They didnt separate to be away from the publics, they separated to be away from ECU, UCF, Tulane etc. They didnt want to be forced to play basketball in the same conference as those guys and didnt like that football was driving the bus in the Big East. So the basketball schools left. Not because they were private, but because they didnt have football and didnt want to play basketball against teams they thought they were better than. UConn has proven they can compete at the Big East level when given BE resources and advantage. The AAC is pulling them down.

That makes sense - we can’t get CUSA to let them in but the AAC wants them. Harrisonburg is too small of a market. Don’t care about the quality of their facilities. Jerry Falwell U has elite facilities, too. Another CUSA reject.

Of course. I just thought part of the new Big East was to have private catholic schools without exception.

That's their goal. If they are going to expand, look for Loyola Chicago to be their first call.
