Between the line up of failed head coaches such as
Petrino
Summers
VanGorder
Speir
Fedora
Ruff
We've got a lot of options.

List of potential coaches from the WS Journal
I know App fans are developing favorites from this list but none of them would really move the needle for me if GS was looking at a coach from this list. Reading the bios from this article the first one I'd interview would be Ruffin McNeil. At least he's a proven FBS HC.
His records....dont look overly impressive. Only one 10-3 season as a HC.
Plus he had some serious player conduct issues. I like Ruff, but not as a HC.

As the Assoc HC I suspect Ivey will coach the bowl game.

What player conduct issues? The only one I can think of is Rio Johnson. I lived in the same dorm with him and saw him a few times in his Redshirt Freshman year with behavior I wouldn't speak of on a message board, mind you none of it was anything of great significance. However, I frequented many of the same places as football players, including downtown, apartment parties, dorm parties, etc. and never saw anything that would justify saying he had player conduct issues.
The actions of two or three players outside of football isn't an indictment on a coach. But again, if he were to come to Boone, he could bring some of that Oklahoma experience with him, including the offense. I think App has the tools to run that style of offense well and could succeed with the defense being as dynamic as it is. It would be quite the story line for him to bring that in at a time when App is finally getting to play UNC when Ruffin's team dropped 70 on them at one point.
However unlikely that it happens, he wouldn't be a bad choice. Not to mention the recruiting boost his experience with Oklahoma in the playoff could bring.

Woody, Ledford, and Sloan are all mentioned as potential candidates.
Posted before, to catch up it was questioned because he said Elliot was in the mix and that is not very likely.

He said he heard that Woody, Ledford and Sloan were in the mix. Then he speculated separately that Elliot may be in the mix because he fit the criteria of the other 3 that were in the mix, but he didn't say he heard Elliot was in the mix. That was his own inference, not what was heard. And yes, he would be wrong about Elliot.

There's no shortage of people with App ties that would like the job. Not saying they're the fall back selection, but DG will definitely look outside the App tree as well because a Woody, Sloan, Ivey, Ledford, Brown, Ruff hire would keep the team humming but App fans are asking for a homerun hire.

Doug Gillen: "We have already commenced a national search to find the next leader of App State Football. When you have a winning program, there is going to be outside interest in your coaches, as has been the case often since I arrived at Appalachian. I can assure you that we have a plan for this search process to find the right fit who understands our culture to lead this program."
The bold part screams someone from within the recent family tree.

Recent family? As long as it's not Sloan.
Elliot would be awesome.
I see several people talking about bringing in a known coach and talking about keeping your coordinators?
Why would they stay if Satterfield offers them a job at Louisville? And if he doesn't, why doesn't he want them?

Wouldn't be a bad choice at all. If we're staying in the App coaching tree I'm hoping it's Woody or Ivey with Sloan as DC and Ponce staying at Co-OC/QB with Clark as Co-OC/OL.

I mean, I know Woody was with ya'll for a few years, but I think he counts as more from the Wofford coaching tree. It's not like Satt created that defensive system and Woody just ran with it, he brought what he did at Wofford to App.
I can't disagree that he'd get a look though. That's if Satt isn't interested in bringing him back in at Louisville in some capacity.

While I agree that Woody would be considered more from the Wofford coaching tree, he spent enough time here to understand the App culture. That's the more important thing, understanding the App culture not necessarily being from the coaching tree.

Coach Bryan Brown has started following University of Louisville football on twitter, also a Louisville recruit too.
He gone.
