I Think There Will Only Be One Operative Question About This Year's CFP After Tonight
....... what is the committee going to give greater weight to, Ohio State coming from a more difficult conference to win, or Oklahoma having atoned for their only loss by beating Texas?
What are your thoughts.
By the way since it is my thread this one shall not be a gripe and moan session over UCF.
That said, I am curious if the committee might not desire to choose between Ohio State and Oklahoma in which case UCF might be the way for Solomon to divide the baby. I don't see the committee risking the ire of 3 P conferences by putting a 2 loss Georgia in, but they might avoid a controversy by putting in UCF.
Personally, Ohio State I think will jump Oklahoma. But now for your thoughts.

It'll be OU. Putting tOSU in will just put Urban's health and pre-seasons issues back to the forefront for an entire month.

Says who? I think most of the stats will say they are close or the Big 12 is stronger.

IMO it has to be OU. Ohio State lost to Purdue in blowout fashion.

Putting Georgia in might be the less controversial of those two choices in the long term. Putting UCF in opens the door to every non-Cartel school who manages to go undefeated against a mediocre schedule having the right to claim they belong in the playoff. Putting Georgia in just leaves the committee open to griping about the SEC being overrated. Granted, there would be a lot of griping over the SEC being overrated.

My vote is Georgia. As much as I despise subjectiveness and believe conference championships and losses matter, Georgia looked like a top 3 team.

RE: I Think There Will Only Be One Operative Question About This Year's CFP After Tonight
Well it may be moot if Northwestern completes their comeback. And I must say if the Buckeyes are unimpressive in a win tonight then OU is going to be the more likely. But anyway you cut it there is going to be some grousing from at least a couple of fan bases.
I had wondered since Notre Dame covered many of the Big 10 cities for eyeballs if it would be easier to leave Ohio State out this year. And since Alabama and Clemson will pull in most of the Southeast there isn't really much network incentive for UCF. But would Oklahoma really deliver much more? They'll pull in a little bit on the West coast that no once else from the field being considered could draw. I think it's going to be an odd year.
So the way I see it shaking out Notre Dame will have to play Clemson first and Alabama will catch whoever gains that 4th slot.
What kind of interest do you think the Clemson / Notre Dame tilt will pull? At least in the ACC's footprint and troughout part of the Nothern Midwest and Northeast I think that's going to draw quite nicely. Oklahoma / Alabama might draw well throughout the Southwest too.

Did they look like a top 3 team when they lost by 20 to Farmer Fran & the fighting Corndogs?

If they want to duck the OU/OSU choice, Georgia is their go. So it's either OU or Georgia ... tied against a weak Big Ten West champion after two scores is not where OSU needed to be to leapfrog OU. Nor is a 3pt lead in the 3rd quarter.
That is also why my money is on OU ... I think a majority of the committee will be comfortable picking the Sooners over my Buckeyes. Roses for the Buckeyes if we close out this game still in the lead against upset-king NW.

Agree, with OU getting the 4th slot. IMO Georgia is better (and probably better than Notre Dame) but I think the committee will consider the SEC championship game this year as an elimination game. If they put the Dawgs at #4 they would have an immediate rematch with Bama unless they drop the Tide to #2. That would be hard to justify.
In the final ranking, I see:
5 Georgia
6 Ohio State
7 UCF
8 Michigan

No. Top 4 perhaps.

Georgia is a legit Top-4 team. Probably Top-3.
But it’s going to be Oklahoma in the #4 seed. Wait and see.
Ohio State vs Washington
Florida vs UCF
Georgia vs Michigan
LSU vs Penn State

While I think Georgia is better than either Ohio State or Oklahoma, with their 2 losses I think they are out. I think Oklahoma gets in over Ohio State. They were already ranked higher, and they played, and beat, a team that was higher ranked by the committee. Due to the same logic that had Oklahoma 5 and Ohio State 6, I expect Oklahoma to get that last spot.

You’re missing Texas if OU is in the top 4.
