RE: C-USA bowls
So with 81 teams in already and Va Tech playing Marshall on Saturday here's what each conference has so far: The last place G5 team by conference record is in parenthesis and bolded as those should be the ones fighting for the last 3-4 spots depending on VT-Marshall outcome.

AAC (7): UCF, Cincinnati, Memphis, Houston, Temple, USF, Tulane (6-6)
ACC (10 or 11): Clemson, Pitt, Syracuse, Ga Tech, NC State, Boston College, Virginia, Miami, Duke, Wake Forest, Va Tech (5-6)
Big 12 (7): Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa St, WVU, TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma St
Big 10 (9): Ohio St, Michigan, Northwestern, Penn St, Wisconsin, Michigan St, Iowa, Purdue, Minnesota
CUSA (7): MTSU, UAB, FIU, Marshall, La Tech, UNT, USM (6-5)
Independents (3): Notre Dame, Army (9-2, still plays Navy), BYU (6-6)
MAC (7): Buffalo, Ohio, NIU, Eastern Michigan, Toledo, WMU, Miami OH (6-6)
MWC (7): Boise St, Utah St, Fresno St, Hawaii, Nevada, San Diego St, Wyoming (6-6)
PAC 12 (7): Washington, Utah, Washington St, Oregon, Stanford, Arizona St, California
SEC (11): Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Florida, Miss St, Missouri, Auburn, South Carolina, Vanderbilt
Sun Belt (6): App St, Troy, Georgia Southern, UL-Lafayette, Arkansas St, UL-Monroe (6-6)

RE: C-USA bowls
So who are the last few teams fighting for bowl spots again?

Also, does WHO we beat in our 6 wins have any effect on whether we get the nod over someone else?

I agree. 5K would be the most they could expect. Tech would bring at least 10K and USM at least 15K.

USM can barely get 15k actual butts in seats at a home game so what makes you think we'll get "at least 15K" to go to a bowl game where tickets are twice if not 3x more expensive than a home game. The last time we went to a bowl game in New Orleans to play ULL, there was speculation USM would have 15-20K but by the time the game was played it was closer to 7500.

I call bullshat on USM only bringing 7,500 to the New Orleans Bowl in 2016 and there was over 30k people in attendance. More gold than red. The announced attendance was 35k. We had at the very least 15k at that game. Our fans love going to New Orleans. I was shooting the shat with some other Southern Miss fans in our section and they hadn't attended a single home game, but decided to attend the bowl because it was in New Orleans. Same thing happens when we play Tulane in New Orleans, but I am sure you already know that about our fans.

Going 6-5 doesn't get us ahead in the pecking order over a 6-6 team, correct?

I wouldn't think so as last year a 6-5 UTSA sat home while 3 other 6-6 teams from CUSA went to a bowl game.

Bowl Projections

At least this has us going to a bowl. Some sites do not.

BYU will get a bowl, their fans travel very well and are all over.

Miami OH will because of the comeback story. ESPN has a contract with the MAC.

Wyoming will if it's a western bowl.

USM gets one because of fans if it's a southern bowl.

Tulane will get a bowl if Marshall wins, if VaTech wins, Tulane gets slighted.

Monroe could get slighted.

I'd say the chopping list is ULM, USM or Tulane. Tulane has the upper hand.

What is the Miami comeback story? I missed the story.

Based on what we were always told by the former ESPN VP Marshall fan, who unfortunately passed away last April, it's an economics question... so whether you're discernibly better than another team only translates into the calculation to the degree that you're deemed more likely to attract a better audience, either in tickets sold or viewership than the other 6-win competition.

It's surprising, though maybe it shouldn't be, that so many of the projections are expecting VPI to win on Saturday. Hopefully, the Herd spoils that notion.

Why would Tulane get slighted? The AAC has 7 primary ties and 7 bowl eligible teams. If UCF goes to an access bowl, then one bowl opens (Cure vs. SBC).

This is an important point. As much as we all hate ESPN C-USA made a strategic error in separating itself from the network. Not only for TV purposes but bowls. And now we aren't even going to have the title game there! Freaking CBSSN gets our title game.

Case in point. During Gameday, they had the two important Sun Belt games on the picks leading up to the headgear pick. No FIU/Marshall mention. No MT/UAB mention.

Wasn't sure of conference tie-ins but with that being the case then it's even more likely that the "last 4" would be USM, Wyoming, ULM, and Miami OH assuming VT wins saturday. Should Marshall win then it will probably come down to location with ULM being the first one out IMO.

I think the MAC has two more eligible teams than they have bowl agreements. Miami is the one with the worst record. They might be in trouble.

Yeah, I'm not feeling too good about our bowl potential. I'm just going to go ahead and assume we're not going. If we do then great, but I'm not holding my breath. Matter of fact, we should ALL feel this way.

That's right. ESPN is as dirty as it gets, but not signing with them means you're completely ignored on their broadcasts. I never thought I'd see the day that I had to watch Rice football on my computer, and our conference championship game isn't even on national television! Awful.

If so then Miami is almost a lock to be left out. Then next in the pecking MAC order would be Toledo and EMU who are both 7-5 (5-3 in MAC). As well, this could be good news for one of the others in USM/Wyoming/ULM

Yeah, I always pull for Louisiana Tech, but you guys had a very disappointing season. This is Holtz's most experienced team, and it didn't even come close to reaching it's potential. What's going on?
