An inconsistent, but good win. Since it’s the first game I won’t get too high or low from it. If we can get more consistent production on offense, this team has a chance to be quite good.

Caver was even better than I anticipated. I like the energy Dickens brought. X looked like a different player than last week. Also I got to check this out tonight. Got a sweet ODU OHT hat out of it that I would have gladly paid for.

ODU vs Navy
We couldn't handle their zone very well. Seems like the scouting report against us is to force us to shoot threes. We are going to score 13 against Syracuse.
Our defense as usual will be very good. Forced a lot of turnovers and showed looks.
I think Kithcart did a fine job filling in for Caver. Anyone who expects him to be just like Caver doesn't understand how good Caver is.
BJ couldn't really get it going tonight. Surprised Marquis only got 6. Robinson looks slow.
To end on a high note, the team faced a bit of adversity and responded in the first game of the season. It's probably better to experience a bit of pressure than to just cruise.

RE: ODU vs Navy
I enjoyed watching our freshmen get minutes and love our overall depth. Ezikpe and Reece played well for their first game - but they don’t look like freshmen. Ezikpe looks like he could play linebacker for our football team. The low post was non-existent. I figured Dickens and E were going to get the low post going.
We’re going to have to play a lot better to beat St. Joes.

We were playing a patriot league team with only 2 returning starters and yet out front court could do little to nothing of note.
We will lose to anyone worth a damn if Caver has an off night. I know it’s early, but this looks like yet another Jeff jones special of good but not good enough.

First game with a totally new squad. Ease up and let's give it a chance

Would you rather me pretend so you can continue to ignore reality?
A win is great, certainly better than a loss.
But our front court “recruits” looked pedestrian against an undersized patriot league team. Syracuse will eat our lunch if they don’t miraculously improve in 2 weeks.

We won by 23 as a 14.5 poing favorite. We should be upset!

RE: ODU vs Navy
It looks like this was Jeff's favorite lineup, playing small ball: Caver, Green, Godwin, BJ, Carver.
Robinson started but only played 11 minutes last night. Dickens got 18. Carver got 22. Based on how everyone looked, I would assume the goal is to flip those minutes between Dickens and Carver eventually and get Robinson more involved. Just can't get over how slow he looked for a senior. Not sure if it's confidence within the system or what.
All of the freshmen played, so no redshirts this year. I thought Wade could get away with a redshirt with how deep we are at the position, but he also looked the most game ready out of the freshmen. Interestingly enough, Reece was the first freshman in. They all played fine. Ezikpe looked much better last night than he did in the exhibition.
At one point in the game, in the first half, I think we were only up by 1 and we had Reece, Wade, and Dickens on the floor along with Godwin and Caver. Just shows that JJ is willing to throw a majority of new pieces of the lineup there early. I think JJ also subbed a LOT, which makes sense since we had such a hard time getting rolling in the first half and early 2nd half. It will be interesting to see what kind of consistent rotation we will see.
Restating the obvious, but this is Caver's team. I think he knows it and the team knows it. He had half the team's points in the first half, and they looked shaken when he was out for an extended period of time at first. Kithcart filled in nicely with confidence to be another good true point guard - not turning the ball over and making the right passes. We don't need Kitchcart to be Caver this year, we just need him to be solid to give Caver a break and I think he fills that need.
I like how in my initial post game post I said BJ couldn't get rolling, but looking at the box score he still went 4-7 from 3 and put up 14 points. I am serious that it looked like an off night from him. I'm not suggesting 14 points is his floor given the competition, but I think it shows that he's going to pick up where he left off last season after shooting 40% from 3 on the year.
BJ had cramps in the exhibition and a bit last night. Caver got cramps last night. My wife thinks Green did too but I didn't see it. She thinks it has to do with drinking the night(s) before... I'm not making that accusation whatsover, just sharing what a fellow student-athlete thinks about it. They were chugging pickle juice as their cure. I'd imagine that's good enough punishment.

RE: ODU vs Navy
To be fair shouldn't we look at Porter versus say Dickens based on last night and the start of last year? To compare Porter late in the year is not fair because Dickens has not had the games yet. By year's end he may be as valuable and good as Trey. We have to let the season play out. Just for fun though.
2017-18 opener (Towson)
Porter - 17 mins, 7 rebs, 6 pts, 3 blocks, 4 fouls
2018-19 opener (Navy)
Dickens - 18 min, 4 rebs, 6 pts, 3 blocks, 2 fouls
Let's see how the season plays out, but after one game Dickens numbers held their own to Porters. It will be interesting to watch.

Comparing the two is pointless. Portrr decided to leave; what does comparing the two (didferent styles as well) accomplish?

I was watching from home but it looked like it was pretty full. It just killed me to see so many (especially the first few rows) sitting and not making noise unless provoked. If we can keep the turnout like this all year it can really set the standard. We need some students to step up and lead the rest of the section though

I was wondering if the seniors weren't having a kick off party the night before with all the cramps as well. Doesn't make a lot of sense with as good of shape they're in and the excellent strength & conditioning. Oh well, let's hope that's out of their system and are smarter than that if true.
Overall, Caver is the man. Looks better than last year. He is everywhere. Green's game seems to have really stepped up and I think he'll be a major contributor this year. I thought the same of BJ, a lot of his shot selection wasn't great. Still, there's no one on the bench I'd want out there over him. I'd like for Godwin to have taken a few more shots, he looked confident on the defensive side though and has progressed nicely. A lot of different lineups, as the new faces start to gel in the system I think we'll become a really good deep team. We need that to happen by Friday though because I don't think this offensive effort will beat St. Joe's. Still pretty excited by the potential of this team and the season.
