Navy Game Day
Having a service academy on campus Saturday can be a unique experience for those who are open to it. Hopefully we will have many cadet visitors to our campus. I hope everyone welcomes them warmly to Cincinnati. These kids are the true flower of American youth.
Circa 2003 I attended a UC versus Army game. The experience was burned into my mind.
I hope Nippert is full and many Cincinnatians get to experience game day versus a service academy.
Treat them well. They are us. But Go Bearcats and win the game.

Would love to do a H and H with Army.
When we both briefly were in CUSA I never got to a game at West Point.

RE: Navy Game Day
I have said this here and to various people in person. I attended the Army v. UC at the USMA in the 90's. There was nothing like the cadets passing in review and hearing the UC alma mater song being played by the Army band. I was also able to see the barracks due to my cousin being a TAC officer at the time. His wife taught at the USMA at the time, both retired now...XU graduates. So when and if you see a Midshipman treat them nicely and remind them: Go Army( I mean Bearcats) Beat Navy.

I did. Very cool stadium where folks tailgated in the nearby woods. Was fortunate to see the Parade of Cadets.
And the Bearcats were awful losing to a previously winless Army team.

The game I remembered was in 2003. We won.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_Cin...tball_team
Back then we could walk on the field after the game. I found myself walking next to two cadets. I expressed my appreciation for their service and said it was almost sad they lost. Back then Army was bad. One cadet said “don’t worry sir, we do this (lose) as a public service.
It was one the game day experiences at Nippert I have never forgotten.

I would think that it will at least be a "peaceful" game in that there won't be any drunk, obnoxious yahoos there cheering for the visitors... a la WVU or UK.

I have nothing but respect for our military. I applaud, salute, and am thankful for those that have served, are serving, and those that will come behind them. I, like many other UC supporters, would love to see more military schools coming to Nippert - would be great!!
I will also add... I would be more than happy to also host UK and WVU at Nippert on a regular basis - and simply be content to chuckle at some of the knuckleheads that accompany the visit.

RE: Navy Game Day
Air Force Academy played at Nippert in the early 1960s. During halftime, a cadet put a live Gyrfalcon through its paces, but before the demonstration ended, the bird went AWOL and took off for a railing on the Shank Pavilion. The announcer advised spectators to give the bird some room, and I watched the crowd shrink back from that section of railing. A minute or so later, a cadet approached the bird, nudged it with the antenna of his walkie-talkie, and the bird then flew over to the roof of the old Gym Building (now Schmidlapp Hall). By then, halftime was over and the teams were coming back onto the field, and since there were plenty of pigeons flying around, I thought that bird was probably thinking it had found a new home. A few minutes after play resumed, however, a cadet came running down the stadium steps in the horseshoe with the big raptor safely in hand. Everyone cheered.
Years later and living in North Dakota, I was tasked with taking a newly appointed US Attorney on a tour of the national park where I worked. When I found out that he was an AFA graduate, I related the AWOL Gyrfalcon story to him. He said he remembered that day. He was on the field as a member of the AFA football team.

Not to get too sappy but I wish Subflea were here to see this one. This game would truly be one he would relish.

I think I was at that game. It was my first trip to Nippert or UC for that matter. I went with a friend and his dad.
I had been to college football games before, but I can remember my first visit to Nippert much more vividly than any other. We walked through Sigma Sigma and listened to the band on the steps, then walked to Nipp and entered at field level from the north endzone where the student rec center now is. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was crazy to me that a University played college football on such a site. Dug out in the middle of campus with buildings all around like that. The Bearcats won that day. Little did I know that I was hooked for life.

Bolded, heck you could even put a surcharge on beer for those opponents' fans if they're wearing blue or gold...and still sell even more. Another bump in revenue for UC!
On a serious note though, I agree that UC and the AAC benefit greatly from the presence of Navy in the conference. The academies are outstanding schools and have a much higher profile than almost all other G5s. I'm all for home and home with Army and Air Force over most any MAC schools.
Frankly, I wouldn't mind some Military Appreciation basketball games with the academies each year, pre-conference. I have to think these games would generate more ticket sales and honoring the military in some way would bring more energy in the building than just playing some obscure school from an unknown place (the kind we high majors all schedule before Christmas).

The academies are higher prestige than many of the schools in the Cartel 5 as well. Hopefully, my sons will be in a position for this to be an option someday.
Excellent idea. UC could make this a yearly tradition. Military night as a pre-conf tilt and do a round robin with Army, Air Force, Navy, maybe even The Citadel. UC could/should promote this to active military / vets with reduced prices. Maybe see if UA could create special uni's.

I would too. I'd be there for every game against those hilljacks.
But man, those people just wear me out...

Unrelated to the game, but just completed Ken Burns doc on the Vietnam War. Whoa! Anyway, for those of us who weren't even a thought during the era this is one of, if not THE, quintessential examination of the war/ era/ etc.
Much, much respect to the kids who commit themselves to nation in this manner. Even in the face of down highly questionable decision making by those who lead them....they serve.
It's unique, and fun that we get to play a service academy as part of AAC. I'm flying up from ATL in order to attend this weekend's game so that I can take in the uniqueness that is Navy's football team. Looking forward to it!

I was there to watch Gino's first action as a Bearcat. Don't know if there is a more beautiful place than West Point on the Hudson Valley.

I was at the UC at Army game as well. Gino came into the game when YC’s starting QB was injured early in the game. Gino came in and threw, as I recall, four touchdown passes.

Yep, i was there as well. He threw 3 in the final quarter, i think the last one was to Tye Keith. Vann has a huge game at wr, it was close to a record i recall, 12 or 13 catches. We also had an interception early in the game by a defensive tackle whom i can't recall his name, but it was a big play to stop one of their drives. Ruffin was the kicker i believe back then.
