Kinda presumptive, but had to be done in a timely fashion...

I wonder what we gave the SWAC to make that happen. We probably need to win out in conference play to host because FIU has been taking care of business in the east.

Well, that's one less thing for us to gnash out teeth about around here.

Love that UAB will have a chance to host but I'd hate it for the city if they lose out entirely.

We agreed to schedule more SWAC teams in basketball.

What are the likely teams to be playing in the SWAC? Would they really have brought that many vs having a home game? I understand if it was AA&M or ASt due to this being a central location for them. Bham might not miss out on as much but I'm sure the SWAC was given something by someone.

As of the current standings, it's Alcorn State (extreme west Mississippi) and Southern (Baton Rouge).

I have mixed feelings about this. I wished the SWAC could of played at Hoover Met this year. The SWAC title game would be a nice addition for new stadium. I don't want the city to lose that.

I am happy that we are recognized as the primary tenant here. That's a first.

In the future I hope the SWAC, UAB, and the city of Birmingham can figure out a way to make it all work.

I've been thinking about this a bit. Mostly on the side of "Why not make it happen ? " as this would be the party of the year, and maybe the decade, to have the C-USA & SWAC championships in Birmingham on the same day.

The #1 thing against it I think is this : There isn't enough locker rooms or space for the teams at Legion Field. 03-banghead

Plenty of cold water in the showers, I bet.

I think it's summed up by the statement in the letter saying that they want the SWAC game to be the premier event when it's played, acknowledging that if it's played together with the UAB game, the SWAC game would play second fiddle. It's a valid point.

Yes. The two teams leading the Divisions are Southern and Alcorn. These two played in the SWAC title against each other in 2014 in a game that drew over 38,000 to Houston at NRG Stadium. Southern has probably the best traveling fanbase in FCS and Alcorn isn't too far behind them.

The Hoover Met doesn't have anywhere near the capacity to host that game. The SWAC title game has a yearly average of about 32-33k. The Met can only squeeze in half of that.

It could happen. I remember when B'ham willingly killed its bowl game (All American Bowl?) in order to show unconditional love to the SEC Championship Game. Not long after that the city wound up empty when the SEC game was moved to Atlanta leaving the city with neither.
