Nice to see a Rice DB go up and get the ball. Now let's drive this and cover.

Was he D1? According to the NCAA FBS record book, the most points scored by a non-kicker in a game is 48: by Howard Griffith, Illinois vs. Southern Ill., Sept. 22, 1990 (8 TDs on runs of 5, 51, 7, 41, 5, 18, 5, 3 yards); and by Kalen Ballage, Arizona St. vs. Texas

reception of 39 yards).

I think he was in the NBA at the time. It could'be been the waning days of the ABA.

In other news, today is the day that I finally outwitted Mike's mad Google skills.

Nice.

WF right back down the field. 49-10

4:1 or 5:1. They’re both better than the 14:1 halftime score ratio.

Are we winning TOP too?

So far, yes: 23:52 to 15:40 late in 3Q.

Also, besides TOP, we are winning POOP.

I thought he was talking about David Thompson at NC State.

The basketball player? That would be an unexpected, orthogonal pivot in the thread.

I'm surprised that rates a WTF. But, yes, ESPN is wrong.

They initially miscoded the INT as happening at the Wake 9, rather than Rice's. It's fixed now.

Definitely NBA. I remember listening to the game too, and he was going for the league scoring title. I thought he hit 70.

But did not get the title as the other guy knocked down over 50 later that night.

That would be impressive even by our standards. Unprecedented loss.

But seriously, was confused as heck.

You were the one to bring up Aussie Rules, a sport more dissimilar from American Collegiate Football than basketball is.

True ... but at least I mentioned the sport explicitly ... and it was in response to I45's comment noting his lack of beer. :-)

It is a lot more than the last three seasons, and it is also a lot more than the 25(0).

It takes consistent and potent neglect to run a program into the ground like this, even at Rice. We had people justifying/ignoring Bailiff's inability to get his teams to play well against anyone decent for over a decade; we apparently had people arguing over whether or not it was time for Hatfield to call time on his tenure when things had obviously and irreversibly gotten away from him; we've even had people extolling the "virtues" of falling off of a cliff in terms of our conference standing.

I don't think people appreciate what a monumental rebuild Bloomgren is faced with, and I certainly don't expect the people who sat around for years while Rome burned to suddenly develop a sense of what really needs to be done to run a D1 football program properly at a small elite private university in a ****house conference. It is good that Karlgaard finally got to appoint a hire of his choosing that has ties to a program that we would like to emulate to at least a small extent. But I am not sure that making good conventional hires is enough to right the ship at Rice at this point.

Rice is a tough job; the events of the last two decades, both at Rice and in D1 college football in general, have made it exponentially more difficult.
