I'd say that was overhyped and maybe they should have waited until there was a better handle of where this thing was going with a narrower cone, no?
The issue is that you just can't put it off. If you try to evacuate millions at the last moments, you have an even bigger problem.
If there was ever a scenario where millions would have to evacuate, it would be panic and chaos anyway. Fact of the matter is, with anything that could come our way aside from maybe a Chinese military invasion, 90% of us are safer just staying put inside their homes. If I am looking at a 2-week power outage like after Isabel, then I'll probably leave after the fact.
Right...that worked well for NOLA.
You mean where the school buses were parked and locked up and the Democratic govenor and mayor didn't do anything to get the people out or the fact that the hurricane never hit NOLA what they got was storm surge.
But don't let that destroy the narrative. Look up Waveland, MS where Katrina made landfall.
What narrative? All involved with Katrina mucked things up. I totally recognize that muckups like this know no party, why can't you seem to?

I should hear more tonight as they started deploying EMS resources late yesterday to evacuate hospitals on the Grand Strand and multiple counties deployed supplemental EMS units and crews to Horry and Georgetown Counties to help out for the duration of the storm.
Seems to me when you have competent people in charge things go a lot smoother.
Well, duh. I hope you and your loved ones are all safe.
Video makes it look rather nasty along the coast of NC (and soon to be SC). While Virginia and inland parts of NC may get off better than expected, areas like Wilmington, Myrtle Beach and perhaps even Charleston may suffer some serious damage. I wonder how the golf courses in Myrtle Beach will fare.

Blanco ensured that the response to Katrina in Louisiana was going to be screwed up by her actions before and immediately after the storm hit. I've mentioned before that we had a crew already on the way to Mississippi's EMAC request before Louisiana's even came in. It wasn't often that I didn't regret a chance to deploy on stuff like this but after our people who eventually did make it to Louisiana got back I was glad I was deemed undeployable because of my Captain being out for surgery and them not wanting to strip our company of the two senior crewmembers. I've been on some ****-shows in the past but the stories our guys who went to Louisiana told were beyond anything I had personally experienced.
Cloudy with slight breeze in Raleigh, I think we'll be spared the worst of Florence, but that hasn't stopped idiots from buying every bottle of water, all bread, emptied all gas stations, etc.

Thanks to Governor Blanco and the crooked mayor, it was a complete sh*thole.

spaghettimodels.com will give you all the info you could possibly want or need. It looks like there is a particularly nasty line of storms stretching from near New Bern to Jacksonville and almost to Wilmington. Those are the types of cells that can easily spawn tornadoes (we had 1 from Harvey a year ago that had an F2 or F3 tornado less than a mile from my house last year - that was Friday night, the day before Harvey hit so those cells are bringing back especially bad memories for me).
Florence was going NW on the last advisory (9 pm EDT) which is against the predictions of it turning a bit SW. They really don't seem to have nearly as good of a grasp on this thing as some storms.
And BTW if Florence isn't enough for you, Isaac is showing signs of also going the unpredictable route and becoming a storm to watch after all. This one could get into the Gulf and possibly hit Florida - just because Florida is feeling a little left out. But who knows, it could keep going west and get closer to Texas/Louisiana too.

And now it's near perfect there. This is what the eye of a hurricane looks like. Even more interesting is that apparently someone(s) are there, riding out the storm and replacing the flags.

That will never change. Even up here in Michigan the fools buy all that crap when about 8 or more inches of snow is predicted.

Friend of mine still in Fayettenam said on FB the other day, "Ya'll drink Mountain Dew, Coke, and sweet tea every day of the week but when a storm is coming ya'll leave that sh*t and buy all the water up."

It's a bed and breakfast now. So I'm guessing the owner is out there.

You’d love observing how we react to even the mere possibility of a light dusting.

Well aware. My sister would tell me the stories when her and her husband were stationed at Ft. Rucker.
