Best/Worst of Week 1
At the time of this post, Arizona State is beating UTSA 21-0 at halftime.
This week’s results:
Oklahoma beat FAU 63-14
Houston beat Rice 45-27
Marshall beat Miami (OH) 35-28
Liberty beat ODU 52-10
Charlotte beat Fordham 34-10
LA Tech beat South Alabama 30-26
Southern Miss beat JSU 55-7
Indiana beat FIU 38-28
Vanderbilt beat MTSU 35-7
UNT beat SMU 46-23
Northern Arizona beat UTEP 30-10
Wisconsin beat WKU 34-3
UAB beat Savannah State 52-0
Overall: 6-8
Non-FCS: 3-7
Worst Loss: Liberty KILLED ODU (UTEP was close though for worst)
Best Loss: Houston beat Rice, but Rice kept it close for a while and lead.
Worst Win: LA Tech should have crushed South Alabama, so I’m skeptical.
Best Win: UNT DESTROYED SMU. UNT lead 36-0 heading into the 4th before putting in third string defense, and still won 46-23.

Ugly turnovers turn a decent win into a bad win. But a win, thank goodness.

SMU is slow, and not very big . Tech lead SMU 42-3 in the first half.

Now if UNT beats Arkansas on the road that will be a solid win.

You are mistaken No one predicted Tech to crush South Alabama, South Alabama beat Troy yes the same Troy team that embarrassed UNT

BTW Boise beat Troy 56-20

RE: Best/Worst of Week 1
I think Marshall's win was worse. We owned them for 3 quarters and then let them back in the game again. Can't even blame turnovers. Just shoddy, out of shape D combined with stagnant offense. They were in a position to beat or tie us with the ball very late in the game. We did make a very good defensive stand late, but it shouldn't have ever come to that.

Tech was up 23-7, but I’ll take any road win

Different seasons. Different teams. Poor logic. Context matters.

You’re saying you didn’t expect LA Tech to crush a team that went 4-8 last year? Yeah, they beat a good Troy team but they went 4-8.

Yeah you crushed an SMU team we lost to. You crushed them after they lost their HQ. We beat you.

At the end of the day, it’s not that indicative of anything in terms of how our respective seasons went.

RE: Best/Worst of Week 1
If you can be happy getting beat by 31 points then Western had a good loss.....I'm never happy losing, much less by 31, but I was expecting worse, much much worse. And saw some things that can be built on with steady improvement.

I dont care if SMU only wins 1 game anytime you beat a team from a conference that is better than yours....its a good win. Destroy them and it's even better. So UNT had the best win.

ODU easily had the worse loss even with UTEP losing to a FCS school

No doubt in my mind that ODU had the worst loss, and it isn't even close -- just like the Monarchs game against Liberty. Bobby Wilder has a huge job ahead of him if the Monarchs are going to turn this around. Based on what I saw last night, it's going to be a long, long, long season. We might beat VMI.

WTF you guys are crazy... UTEP getting their asses handed to them at home by a 1-AA is a far worse loss than ODU losing on the road.

I agree. Liberty has been competitive for years now and they have several D1 athletes on their team. UTEP lost to a team with all FCS players.

Th loss will hurt ODU more since Liberty is now FBS and recruits against them.

Not a good look for CUSA in OOC vs FBS.

Sadly MT’s loss to Vandy was expected by many of us. The fan base is overall done with Coach Stock. Wouldn’t be surprised if we miss a bowl this year, but CRS’s typical season is to do just enough to skate by.

I expected NA to beat UTEP. They're a top FCS program. The TOP of the FCS will beat the bottom of the FBS most times. (You'll notice that Nicholls beat Kansas.)

Emotionally liberty is worse for me but taken with perspective it isn't the worst.

Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

All we are trying to say is to hold off on proclaiming SMU a good team this year - when we played them in the bowl last year they were pretty bad. Good win though

No dude i know who that ECU fan is and that is not me. You have no idea the amount of disgust i have in my head for the ODU coaches. The sad part is it didn't go away after last night. It might be a while before i can talk clearly.

You are absolutely correct. I'm one LA Tech fan that will tell it like it really is, and LA Tech looked like Dog poop last night. It's now obvious that Tech QB, J'Mar Smith has NOT gotten any better in the off season, and most Tech fans have just about had enough of him.

Congrats on UNT's big win last night. You guys faced your old nemesis SMU, and you punched 'em in the mouth. You gotta love that. I just wish that J'Mar Smith (6'2, 230) had ONE OUNCE of the competitiveness in him that Mason Fine has in his 5'10 body. Fine lifts his team's competitiveness with his own outstanding play, while J'Mar deflates his.
