$.05 State just beat Kansas. They sure were smart to maintain a good basketball program, otherwise they would be keeping us company on the misery train.

Kansas drops to 3-34 under Beaty. 2-1 vs FCS teams. What on earth was Kansas thinking when they hired Beaty?

Who wants that job? It can be a career killer. They may just have to stay with Beatty...they tried throwing out big bucks and that didn’t work.

They were trying to keep up. Why else would you hire David Beaty? He was gawd awful here.

Now if you want ugly...SMU had just over 100 yards at the end of the 3Q and for quite a while UNT had more 1st downs than plays SMU had run. For the game SMU ran 43 plays vs UNT’s 84.

I'm sure there are plenty. Their issue is they went for a big name with Weis trying for a silver bullet and then hired a disaster named Beaty. Beaty was a surefire failure.. that was apparent when he was here.

They'd be better off going the OSU Gundy route and trying to find a D3 or D2 guy who fits the fundamentals. That takes vision though and any department that hired Beaty clearly lacks that.

They could bring June Jones back from the CFL if they want to continue their string of “great” coaching hires. Like the Bailiff extension I am sure KU fans hated the extension Beatty got after beating UT. There is probably a good number who would give back that win to get rid of Beatty.

RE: Other games - Week 1
The other funny about the KU game was Beaty iced the kicker at the end of regulation. First kick was wide left. Second one was the tying points.

Coaching. Nicholls. Time outs. Special teams. The irony is beyond belief.

Also icing the kicker.. at what point do coaches stop doing this? It statistically does not work.

I thought they might be a road win but was really impressed with their game vs Colorado St. If they can knock off Navy they will be way better than anticipated.

True. Although CSU got slaughtered by Colorado.. so whether UH is better than expected or CSU is abysmal is to be seen. Could be both.

This game will tell us more.

28-0 now ... after a blocked punt is run back for a TD.

Hawaii has 249 yds passing and 332 yds of total offense in the first half against Navy. Does anyone think Rice's defensive backfield is as good as Navy's?

Unless Bloomgreen and his defensive staff are magicians, next week is not going to be pretty (except for the scenery surrounding the stadium.)

Lundy wasn't a D2/D3 guy. He went from player at Okie St to assistant coach at Okie St to Baylor to Maryland to OC at Okie St to HC at Okie St. He was never at a D2 or D3 stop.

You may be thinking of another Mike, Leach, who went with Hal Mumme from Iowa Wesleyan to Valdosta State to Kentucky, and was then hired as OC at Oklahoma before HC at TT.

Good lord CUSA
I'll see your Liberty/ODU and raise you UTEP losing at home to N. Arizona 30-10. At this point I can't see Rice not winning at least 2 more games.

Liberty might be pretty good. They beat Baylor last year. Baylor was bad, but not CUSA bad.

I am still sticking with my preseason pick to win 4. I stuck with 3 a long time last year, from being chastised on here for being too pessimistic until it became obvious that Bailiff had totally lost the plot.

How is Kingsbury still there? Seems like he is their Bailiff and is hovering below 0.500. I guess the UT game saved him.

Mensa lost an ugly game at Maryland, a team with no coach. The shorthorns were 12 point favorites and the Maryland moneyline was +450.

Hawaii looks pretty legit. Hopefully we can play them similarly as we did the Coogs but without the second half swoon.

Sorry, I meant the OSU Gundy hiring of an OC route. My bad, that was unclear.

Gundy opened up his computer and looked up well-balanced offenses across the nation. He narrowed his search to no-huddle offenses, and finally started looking at smaller schools.

His search led him to Division II Shippensburg University in Pennnsylvania, which was first in the nation in offense and second in scoring. This is where he found Yurcich, though it was tougher to talk to the man than he thought it would be.
