ODU vs Liberty
What do our C-USA conference mates think about this matchup? Is it something that you think should develop into a long term series? Solid out of conference matchup? Potential conference mate? I think with some success they could be a lesser known BYU. They have tons of $$$.

BTW ODU Wins 28-14

Let's see:

Question 1: Meh
Question2: No
Question 3: Solid? No
Question 4: NOOOOOOOOO

And finally, just NO!

They are still a friggin' FCS team! They were 6-5 last year in arguably the worst FCS conference! To listen to their fans, you'd think they were world-beaters. They're gonna be in for a rude awakening because depth is going to be a massive problem for them as they move into FBS.

They started their transition last year and in year 2 of their transition now count as an FBS opponent. And there are worse FCS leagues, a few that offer zero scholarships like the Pioneer. But I can't disagree with much else.

They should have been slaying teams with all their resources but have been pretty disappointing for a long time.

I have zero interest in ODU developing a rivalry with them, adding them to CUSA or ODU playing them regularly.

I don't mind playing them OOC. It's a close winnable game. Not an annual thing but keep them in the rotation. Our admin has done a great job scheduling regional opponents and Liberty fits the bill. I'm certainly more excited about playing them than Buffalo.

Part of me wants close travel games for opponents to get more fans to games. I want phase 2 of the stadium and im ok with having some away fans creating demand for more seats.

I get it. I just have no interest in playing them. And I like Lynchburg. I just spent last week at Lock'n and did a kayaking/brewery trip there in June.

I'd just rather play teams that have fun atmospheres like ECU and Appy.

Liberty is as toxic as Chernybol.
Liberty is an on line degree mill.
Liberty teaches "Creationism" as a science class.
Liberty athletics sucked in the Big South and will suck worse now.

I blasted the hell out of Mike Hamrick on twitter when he signed a H/H with them and told him in person that I would not watch or go to either game even if given tickets free. The founder of the so called university and his son are/where disgusting fear mongering pigs who would steal the pennies off a dead mans eyes. Neither are any better than what Fred Phelps was (Founder of Westboro Baptist Church).

I would really like to have Liberty in USA.... eventually.

But I think they need to prove their salt for 3 to 5 years. We don't need another Charlotte. Honesty hurts.

If you've never been to Lynchburg, they've got a really nice downtown right now.

I understand that. I should have said, "still the equivalent of an FCS team".

RE: ODU vs Liberty
Interesting to see the number of C-USA teams Liberty has scheduled over the next few years even without complete schedules which means there could be more.

2018 - 2
2019 - 0
2020 - 3
2021 - 4
2022 - 3
2023 - 1
2024 - 1
2025 - 1
2026 - 1

They would need to seriously upgrade basketball as well.

West Virginia does know a thing or two about pigs, just ask the Hatfields and McCoys. Of course they are not to smart. They let Tennessee steal the theme and the Volunteers are making millions off of it in Pigeon Forge, while they run around with smut on their face.

Is that show any good? I go to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge (aka the Twinbred Cities) twice a year and I haven't had a chance to hit it. Dolly Parton's Artist Formerly Known as Dixie Stampede was fun, but that's the only dinner show I've attended thus far.

I went to the first Lockn, great festival. Funny story actually. Our car broke down in line to get in, traffic was pretty much stopped and people were out of their cars tailgating. I noticed the guy in front of us pour a drink into his ODU Tervis Tumbler. So I start talking to him and explained our situation. He pulls out his tow strap and hooks it up to his big ass truck, tows is right in. Me and my decide to enjoy ourselves and worry about the car on Sunday. Come asunday it starts right up and we drive home. Car didn’t last much longer, fuel pump was going but apparently couldn’t handle all the idling. I’d like to make it back but child number two restricts our entertainment opportunities and I don’t have the stamina for 4 days of straight partying like I used to. Maybe just a day.

What was your favorite act?

Other than receiving huge pay checks i have no effing interest in developing a rivalry with these tree huggers. I'd rather play ECU, Appy and even teams like GXU's before we play these guys.

Love to hear stories like that. Wish I could say it was an ODU thing. More likely though it's a Lockn thing. So many good folks there.

And I get the stamina concern. We go every year (went from Wednesday to Monday this year) but recently transitioned to VIP because of it.

It was a great call. The camping is a short walk to the fest grounds, the VIP lounge is like an oasis of AC, comfortable chairs, food and beer. The concierge has free water and sells ice. The showers are warm and bathrooms are cold. And no line to get in. My dogs were still barking Monday but it was easier to recover each day with that warm shower and a cold beer. Lot more families in VIP too.

We were most excited for Widespread (my favorite band) and Dead and Company (my wife's). But Tedeschi Trucks were the MVPs this weekend. Killer sets both days. Lettuce doing Jerry Garcia Band covers with D&Co was pretty cool too.

Liberty's athletics are better than Charlotte's though. Even their basketball. Never understood taking this crap back, I friggin hate Appy State but they would have been a 10x upgrade over the 49ers.

Whenever anyone brings up ULM the first thing people gripe about is their academics. They are head and shoulders above Liberty there. Liberty doesn't have a tenure system, and several of their big programs aren't accredited. Might as well be schedule a JUCO.

I hate that we have them on the schedule, never want to be in a conference with them.
