Quote:The gunman who opened fire on a "Madden NFL 19" tournament in Jacksonville, Florida, on Sunday was hospitalized previously for mental illness, according to court records obtained by The Associated Press.

Divorce filings from the parents of 24-year-old David Katz of Baltimore showed that as a teenager he was hospitalized twice in psychiatric facilities and was prescribed anti-psychotic and anti-depressant medications, the AP reported Monday.

Quote:Katz legally purchased his firearms — .45 caliber and 9mm handguns — in Baltimore, Maryland, Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams told reporters. He bought them within the past month from a licensed dealer, officials said.

Once again a missed opportunity to possibly prevent a mass shooting.

I'd love to see the paper trail on that one. I'm guessing it was missed because he was a juvenile?

Shouldn't matter because unless his psychotic behavior was the result of medication it's incurable. You can treat it but it is never cured.

I don't disagree, just didn't know the law and what is included in these background check.

If it were more streamlined nationwide, it would be easier to catch, but as of right now, I believe states have different laws set up about how much info regarding mental health they share for background checks.

Obama relaxed part of HIPAA several years ago to try to get better info to them, IIRC.

The background check was clear because the mental health professional didn't bother to petition the court to strip someone suffering from psychosis of their right to purchase firearms.

The missing element is the kid was on psychotropic medications. That is a common thread that has been ignored for too long.

RE: Mass shooting reported at Jacksonville Landing
Look at pics of the killer... his eyes are blank.

Anyway...

While I agree that it's not a good idea to let mentally ill people be around guns, I think mentally ill people shouldn't be in society.

We used to institutionalize these people. Personally, I think the "not guilty by reason of insanity" person is a LOT more dangerous to society than a guilty sane person.

But that's just my personal belief.

As far a mental illness and guns/2nd Amendment goes, I'm very leery or restricting 2nd Amendment rights for someone dubbed "mentally ill". I envision a very corrupt government whose ideology is bent on disarming Americans. I also envision that very corrupt government having control of individual healthcare decisions.

So, the logical conclusion is....

The government doctors would identify those individuals who profile as pro-2nd Amendment as being mentally ill (by hook or by crook) in an effort to bypass constitutional liberty.

I know, I know... I'm some kind of kook who thinks our pristine government would ever be capable of doing that, but I don't know. It just might be possible.

Soooo...you think mentally ill people should be institutionalized because it's not safe for them to be in society (and acknowledge they shouldn't be around guns), but yet you're "leery" of restricting their 2A rights?

I swear, people on this board get nuttier by the second.

obama admin. implemented a rule that classified those who needed assistance with their social security payments as "mentally ill", and the ACLU supported President Trump's repeal of it.

So yeah, it's a valid concern.

You alt-leftists (that seem to be flirting with authoritarianism) need to learn that there is a world out there beyond what you individually perceive, and just because you aren't aware of something, doesn't mean it isn't possible or doesn't exist.

5 seconds ago, green took it for granted that if the government with a strike of a pen classified someone as mentally ill, it magically made it so.

Another example is the terror watch list. How many Congressmen have been placed on it, again?

Then CNN, Fox, ABC, NBC, and CBS all need to work on corroborating their sources before putting out #FakeNews.

Here you go lazyass.

Quote:The shooter was a gamer who was competing in the tournament and lost, according to Steven “Steveyj” Javaruski, one of the competitors.

No one else is reporting this. The LA Times? Really?

How hard did you have to google before you came up with the LA Times?

Hi.

No, I'm leery of the government restricting MY 2nd amendment rights by concocting a mental illness hoax with a government-employed doctor.

I sincerely hope you're not calling me nutty.
