No, they're horrible because MTV is completely out of touch with music now, and has been long before Trump. Everything is not about politics. Sometimes it's just crappy programming.

If it was limited to MTV then your point would be more relevant but it's not just MTV. It's every Hollywood/show biz award show. They're all in the tank. And they've all MADE THEMSELVES about politics and have made their stage about bashing this president.
Nobody wants to hear it and the public is making their voices known by not watching.

This thread literally has MTV listed in the title, so that's what I'm talking about.

Do you actually think the MTV demographic is mad that artists talk bad about poor wittle Twump? You need to think again.

Viewership of the VMA's has been tumbling since about 2010-11. They lost 50% of their viewership in the past three years (PS - that's pre-Trump).

MTV is considered irrelevant in an era where new artists are streaming their music any which way. The VMA's are proof positive of that. It used to be the show you watched so you'd be in the loop on the crazy thing that happened on it. I didn't even know it aired this week until I saw this thread.

TDS is cringe.

Phil Collins performed. And I felt good about what I watched. I actually had a rooting interest. No Reagan bashing. No nothing but a lot of frizzy hair and pastel colors.

Why can't we have 1985 again ?

Exactly. It used to be extremely rare for politics to be part of an awards show. Marlon Barndo---George C Scott---its was relatively limited. Because it was so limited---it actually had some impact. Now---you've got every Tom, Dick, and Harry with a modicum of fame thinking their political opinions are important to everyone else. Award shows have become non-tolerant zones in which only one opinion is allowed. They have become preachy, in your face, political shows where they hand out a few awards---most of which nobody cares about. I quit watching them beacuse they seemed more interested in telling conservatives how stupid they are than entertaining. Pass. Frankly, Ill enjoy their music/movies more knowing less about what they think.

Here is the thing Ive never understood---both fame and TV ratings are driven by popularity. In a 50-50 political nation---why in the hell would you want to alienate half our audience. It seems to me that a smart celebrity will keep his politics personal because every other choice is a no win situation. 04-cheers

Yep. Personally, the politically correct liberal minded lifestyle has been propped up by social media in a big way, along with the usual help from the mainstream media. I think that's at least a portion of the difference between right now and 1985.

Cool numbers - too bad it's got nada to do with the topic.
PS - You must have gotten them from the Blaze. Fox's numbers, while bigger than CNN, are actually down in overall viewership by 12% since last year.

https://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/february...ork/358292

Compared to Feb. 2017, Fox News was down -5 percent in prime time viewers, and down -3 percent in the prime time demo. FNC was down by double digits in total day versus last February, down -12 percent in total viewers and down -10 percent among adults 25-54.

Clicked your link, saw that it was from Feb 27, 2018, and immediately X'ed out. My numbers are current, yours are 6 months old. Why lie? Fox News is up now.

And it is absolutely on topic. Certain brands made the conscious decision to go all in on Trump derangement, and it has proven to be a miserable failure.

Quote:Fox News Channel continues to dominate the basic cable landscape, and finished No. 1 in total day viewers for the week of August 13, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s now 32 consecutive weeks FNC has finished No. 1 across the 24-hour day. Fox News’ 1.34 million viewer average across the 24-hour-day is +4 percent vs. vs. the comparable week last year.

FNC also finished No. 1 across basic cable in total prime time viewers for the 12th straight week. Its 2.3 million total viewer average in the daypart is +12 percent vs. the same week last year.

Fox also lost 5% of their age 25-54 viewership on July reports.

VMA's viewership has been dropping precipitously since WAY before Trump ever came on the scene. Are you going to blame the drop during Obama's presidency on politics, too?

Yes, this thread is about the MTV award show, and you make solid points, but the diving ratings bleed off to every Hollywood award show on television. They all have that in common, they've all made themselves political and they've all gone in the tank. Every one of them. It's cost them all big time, including the MTV awards.

The MTV demo is generally agreeing with the artists whenever they get political. Other shows with older audiences aren't. That's the difference.

I'm not sure I agree with that, actually. Some do, absolutely but many don't. My kids and their friends certainly don't and they fall in that demographic.
Not pointing directly at you with this statement, but that's sorta the attitude that led to the downfall of the left in the last presidential campaign. They took many demographics for granted and they paid dearly for it.

I get where you're going with that point, but I would ask if your kids are avid MTV watchers? If not, they're not a part of the MTV demo, regardless of whether they're of the same AGE as the main MTV demo or not.

Good point. They actually are MTVers but probably not as avid as you and I were in our younger days. My son is 22 and my daughter 31. They're turned off by the political stuff because it takes away from the "meat" of the show, and because they're just sick of it.

Valid question. Overall anything they're watching is streamed from their phone/tablet.
