Of the 5 gentlemen I work with...4 are pro Trump and 1 is "watching" to see where he takes us. All are over the age of 40. Id submit that demographic is where this figure is coming from. I doubt many youths are in this.

Most people do surround themselves with like minded people. But liberals are far more likely to make a deliberate effort to avoid "those people (conservatives, fundamentalists...)." And they are far more likely to be isolated in liberal enclaves with very few conservatives around.

family and friends are virtually 100% conservatives (might run across the occasional lib in day to day things, but no one I hang out w/ is a liberal)
every single person in the office at work is a Trump supporter (7 of us, all white conservatives)

It isn't any one person's claim. It cites 5 polls (with less bias ranking than Rasmussens) that have him as low as 7-9% and as high as 15-18%. With larger sample sizes and some of them being meta analyses.
