there must be a rule that states when they return to session after the break, there must be a physical body in the seat....

and then the Gov should have just appointed a warm body for 90 days.

I don't disagree that being best method.....however, there has to be some law in the books that forced it into action....

if there isn't, it absolutely doesn't make sense....

maybe that's why he intentionally didn't thank Kasich???

food for thought, eh?

RE: 2018 Ohio Special Election Results
I lived in Delaware County, Ohio from 2001-2013. My observation: this district had and continues to grow extremely Progressive over that time. You have to keep in mind that the communities that make up this district are some of the fastest growing communities in the state-- a lot of transplanted liberals coming in from the Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown and Toledo areas, not to mention other parts of the country. Even the Republicans I ran across during my years there tend to be of the Big Govt. variety (makes sense with Columbus being the Capital and how many people are employed by the State in the community). As a result of this, I think the Republican strangle hold on this district will not be long for this world.

Cohen is a radleft dem in a deeply dem district. This one's not too difficult to call.

Now, if he gets an AA dem to run against him in a primary, then your pick gets a lot tougher.

RE: 2018 Ohio Special Election Results
Pessimistic Republican view of the results.

American Greatness is an unbashed pro-Trump website.

https://amgreatness.com/2018/08/07/ohio-...t-winning/

Republicans and Trump supporters needed some good political news, and they got it Tuesday night in the special election for Ohio’s 12th Congressional District.

"Republican Troy Balderson’s narrow, one-point win doesn’t mean a “red wave” is swelling. Instead, the results contain both good and troubling news for President Trump and his party. Rather than setting the GOP at ease, these results should serve as a wake-up call to improve their focus on swing voters before the November elections....

It might be troubling for many Republican leaders to hear this, but it appears these voters <Romney/Clinton> are lost to the GOP in most races this year. The booming economy might be attracting yet another group of voters, those who voted for Romney and either Gary Johnson or Evan McMullin, to stay with the party. But there is no evidence that this, the tax cuts, or any other policy measure yet devised can overcome the antipathy many of the Romney/Clinton voters feel for the president.

Ultimately, enough of these voters have to be won back if a new Republican Party is to become the clear majority party. But that won’t happen this year, and the party needs to plan accordingly.

What should trouble the party more than this drag on their numbers is the apparent weakness Republican candidates have among the Obama/Trump voters....

Restricting immigration is part of that appeal, but only a part. Trump won these voters’ loyalty because he showed them he cared about their lives, their aspirations, and their role in building America. That means talking about a lot of things many Republicans prefer to avoid...."

Cohen is the fruitcake that told Strojk he wanted to give him a purple heart. Then backpeddled like a flaming douchebag when he got torched for the low-IQ comment. He's been hiding under Nancy Pelosi's skirt ever since.

Freaking awesome.

For 70+ the man can dance!

And he keeps dancing circles around the Dems and the MSM.

Now, he needs to figure out how to dance circles around the leftist judges. He's got the long-term plan on track. The only possible foil will be if Ginsberg lives to be 100.

Other than that, he's rockin'!

More like a 53-42 district. But point taken... sort of.

Is that really what happened in OH-12, though?

The district broke 66-29 in 2016 for Frank Tiberi. Its a more traditional, Rockefeller republican district... John Kasich once represented this district. Trump’s Republican Party is consistently underperforming in country club suburban districts that once broke heavily for Republicans.

Trump and the Republicans are doing VERY well with Republican voters despite what you read in the NYT and hear from the never-Trumper paid talking heads. My friends who I would consider most likely to waver are very strongly behind Trump's policies.

Are Republican leaning independents less likely to vote R? Maybe. Democratic leaning blue collar independents are definitely voting more R.

I think the election results will show, relative to 2016

1) Non-college degreed Republicans and Independents are sticking with Trump
2) College degreed individuals are moving heavily to the Dems.

This district is 88 percent non-Hispanic white so there's really very little data to go on regarding minority voters.

Obviously the Dem increase of 10 percent came from somewhere. Was it all just higher Dem voter intensity? I think that was a lot of it, and probably a massive gender gap. I suspect that Trumps numbers among independent white voters with college degrees is where the additional Dem voters are coming from.

I love the whole republicans-are-idiots comments.

I don't agree with it. In fact, the world I live in slaps this trip in the face everyday. I work for a Fortune 500 company filled with people holding one or more college degrees. I hold 2. My IQ has tested above 135.

But let's just go with the suggestion that conservatives are idiots and liberals are brilliant.

And I count RINOs in with the libs, because, well, they are libs.

So why, after decades of political control, have the intellectuals given us consistent underperformance and failure?

I compare this to the field of Education.

For the past SEVERAL decades, in excess of a century, people specializing in the field of education have been in control. These are highly-degreed people who have attended some of the finest universities in the world.

Given their education levels and brilliance, why has the American public education system plummeted down the charts compared to other industrialized nations?

And given all of their knowledge and the policies they implement, why do they always blame others for their failed results? "It's the fault of the parent."

Yeah, right. Those parents you're blaming were educated BY YOU! Their failures are a reflection on YOU.

Here's my thought about the Greens. I just ignore them. They probably would just rather go to a gluten free anti-vax bike lane rally than vote. I don't think that they really are voting for a Democrat if a Green isn't in the race....they're flat out not voting.

When they come up to me, as they periodically do, I just dismiss them with "I'd respond to you, but I'm waiting for perfect, so I'll just not engage with you, just like you do with your vote".

While the actress' tweet was poorly considered (as was DJT's laughable tweet claiming that Balderson was losing by 30 points before he came out to campaign for Balderson), the question of why the GOP won't fund protecting our elections from Russian hacking is a valid one.

Hey, quick question for you.

Should the United States interfere in the elections of other nations?

Yep, and "progressives" got BTFO.

democrats have to literally shaking right now. They're so desperate for a message, and they thought they had one with anastasia cortez, so she goes out and endorses a bunch of principles "progressives", and they all lose.

Yeah, right. Those parents you're blaming were educated BY YOU! Their failures are a reflection on YOU.

Because the system is poorly structured and no one wants to fix it. True accountability is missing from every part of the system. School boards answer to the local voters. It can be hard to be fair and impartial when your neighbors are ready to vote you out because their kids did something stupid. Then you have the Department of Education mandating certain beliefs and tying funding to them. Also, state legislators approve testing standards that are created by liberal professors, that would never step foot in a public classroom and teach. Plus, the pay isn't that great for someone that has a college degree. I think most of the best and brightest choose the private sector where they can earn 2 or 3 times more. Because of this, you only get a few truly dedicated educators that make a difference, and many lazy liberals that just want summers off and a guaranteed retirement.

Also, in America we try educate everyone, where they like it or not. That's my take anyway.

Russia killed a bunch of whales and processing made them a bunch of money so they paid the RNC to gerrymander all the racists, bigots, homophobes, and dumb people into easily winnable districts and also paid the Facebook and the YouTube to lie to the people and also paid Paul manafort a ton of money to rig voting machines. The green party was the safety valve in case in case the republicans got close. Putin oversaw all this from his command center in his ghey camps.

I know all this because vox, slate, thewapo, the NYT, and Rosie O'Donnell said so.

Or

Democrats hate America.

There is enough votes that need to be counted before a winner can be announced. Early mail in voted tend to be Democrats. It could be Republicans who voted Democrats because they are tired of Trump's Twitter habits and so forth.

As it is, the race is a dead tied for now. Nobody have won yet.

While its technically possible that the outstanding ballots could put O'Connor into the lead, its highly unlikely.

RE: 2018 Ohio Special Election Results
I've been thinking about it, and here's where I come down politically these days.

I think the ultimate objective of all democrats is a socialist/communist state, regardless of whether that is a good thing or bad--like USSR or Venezuela. The only difference I see is between moderates (who want to get there slowly) and extremists (who want to get there next week), but the ultimate objective appears to me to be the same. I don't see any democrats pointing us in any other direction, just difference of degrees how far and how fast. I think this is in part driven by the path LBJ send democrats down with his Great Society--which I have paraphrased as, "Keep 'em dumb, keep 'em poor, keep 'em dependent on handouts, and you'll keep 'em voting democrat." Quite honestly, that strikes me as incredibly evil.

I have historically counted on republicans to protect me from democrat extremism, but frankly they are doing a pretty worthless job. What I see is a focus on religious extremism (anti-abortion, anti-LBGT) litmus tests, to the exclusion of almost any ideas in other areas, except to be "democrat lite." Just spending not quite as much money as the democrats want to spend on a bad program is still wasting money. So republicans are to me the stupid party.

Stupid party versus evil party. Wonderful.

Where are the ideas?
There are better ways to do health care than what we used to have, or Obamacare, or single-payer/single-provider. Why don't we hear about them?
There are better ways to do welfare than the extremely inefficient, bloated, and overhead-heavy approach we follow. Why don't we hear about them?
There are better ways to do taxes than the way we do. Why don't we hear about them?
There are better ways to do national defense and homeland security than what we do. Why don't we hear about them?
There are, in short, better ways to do everything than what we are doing. Why don't we hear about them?

The first team to start talking about better ways to do things gets my vote. As long as they are just arguing over how much to waste on the same stupid approaches, they can both go suck an egg.
