No coverage in the Johnson City Press
With football season only a few weeks away, I wonder why there hasn’t been any coverage in our local paper of the football team’s upcoming season? I know the players haven’t officially started practice, but you would think more readers would be interested in what’s going on with ETSU football than some of the current articles they are publishing. I’ve seen more high school football articles this summer, so you would think ETSU would’ve at least been mentioned. Wonder what’s going on?

I was thinking the same thing. There should be more coverage. I think the Bucs will be greatly improved this year. Hopefully the local paper will kick up the coverage very soon.

Pardon the throwback — this was the constant complaint in the old days, mixed in with outright anger at all the over the top Big Orange coverage. Now, giving them a break, the JC Press doesn’t give UT football nearly the coverage of yesteryear (of course there hasn’t been much to cover for a number of years on that front). New day — Bucs now playing a money game at UT. In the old days it would have cost ETSU players to get into UT football games if tickets could have been found.

That paper has become a skeleton of what it once was. They keep trimming the staff, news and sports, while milking the legacy of the name.
And apparently people would rather read about an amateur golf tournament at that.

Could it possibly be a money thing? Got to make $$$ to stay afloat.

Perhaps, but when the quality of the product diminishes to a point it is no longer useful...there is no profit to be made. The JCP/KTN looks more like Sears/K-Mart to me every day.

Most newspapers and magazines all across the nation are having financial problems.
What would you like to see reported? There is nothing going on except the coaches prep work for fall practice and players individual workouts. There's not even an official roster until players report.

These for starters:
The QB battle
The GA State TE who transferred in
A breakdown of the schedule
How to improve the running game
Last years redshirts that could have an impact this year
A look at this senior class that is the first to have been here 4 years and look at all the recruiting classes to see who is still here and who has left

What about another article revisiting the 90s Science Hill basketball teams?

Yeah, just study how John Adams makes UT football into a fulltime job year-round for story ideas. As reviled he is by some in the fanbase, he does a great job, IMO.

The Southern Conference football media day(s) usually happens this time of year, but I can't find anything about it online.
Does anybody know when it is; or did I miss it ?

I think this is the 2nd year in a row that they have decided to not have "media days" and instead have some kind of conference call thing.

Today, according to Paul Hollis (Assistant Commissioner of Video Production
Southern Conference):
"At the request of the football coaches, we will not be doing a Football Media Day. Instead, we will be releasing video interviews before the start of the season".

Should be about two weeks from today. Of course you'd never know from any news reports.
