Football Feasibility Update?
Any word on if they still plan on releasing the findings anytime soon?

It was supposed to come out in the "spring".

I heard late June, early July. Seems like the time for release is fast approaching.

The big question for me is, did the money folks who backed Darrell make some promises with regard to help with funding football?

Would not be out of the question. But likely hiring Darrell was leverage they would need to secure funding if the study came back in favor of adding Football.

RE: Football Feasibility Update?
Have a friend close to the program who said a few weeks ago there are two outcomes on the table.
1. UALR would release the report with a press release thanking everyone for the help and contributions and would spend the upcoming months assessing and reviewing the findings and the report would be tossed into a file cabinet and Conque would turn back to focusing on a baseball stadium.
2. The report would be tossed into a file cabinet until an FOI request for the report arrives from a local media outlet and it would be released with an appropriate quote about assessing and reviewing before being returned to the file cabinet.
My friend doesn't bat 1.000 on what he tells but he is pretty dialed in

My assumption was that this study was done to placate a few folks and allow UALR to not have to deal with the idea of football again for, at least, 20 years (a generation). Building a wrestling facility and a new baseball stadium is quite enough for our AD and athletic staff to deal with, along with resurrecting men's basketball.

RE: Football Feasibility Update?
How about option 3.... Just put it to rest by admitting that football is a no go due to funding and liability and assert we are focusing on wrestling, possibly improving baseball facilities and optimizing basketball.

Oh yeah and Ice hockey...It'll be cheaper to put a rink in the jack than add football.

I'd take hockey over football in a second. Give Alabama-Huntsville a travel partner.

I think the Jack is too small for hockey, so it's probably not worth worrying about.

Maybe they could come up with a new game with a smaller playing surface, like they did with indoor football, and the Trojans could play hockey at the Jack.

I think there are some hockey competitions that are 3-on-3, though they're on regular sized rinks. Maybe something like that, but with smaller rinks. Be an innovator!

So, I guess that means that, for the next 20 years or so, when anyone brings up the crazy idea of UALR football our AD can pull out the file to quickly end the conversation. Probably was worth the 100K for Chasse and any future AD that comes along.

RE: Football Feasibility Update?
It should be noted that the feasibility study, is just that. It will lay out the costs of starting up football- additional athletic department staff required, additional coaches required, practice facilities, travel costs, equipment costs, scholarship costs for football and additional women's scholarships that will be required, etc. compared to likely revenue projections. The firm won't make the decision- that will be up to the Chancellor, AD, Board members, etc. It may be awhile, until a decision is actually made, unless the results clearly show that starting football would be a boondoggle.

RE: Football Feasibility Update?
I just had a talk with the athletic department last week. Here is the basic timeline as it stands now.
Late Summer/Early fall - Football feasibility study released.
Fall - internal meetings to review
Late Fall Winter - committee formed to review recommendations by the feasibility study, take in considerations from the athletic department, do analysis.
Spring Semester - committee meets back with athletic department, chancellor, and board to present their recommendation.
(Hopefully toward the end of basketball season) - athletic department, chancellor, and board will make final decision.
It should be noted that the final decision rest in the hands of the athletic department, chancellor, and board. As I was told the feasibility study and the committee could all advice the university not to do it, but if those parties still feel it is in the best interest of the university they will do it.

Or, I assume that opposite could occur as well. Thanks for your info. No need to lose any sleep over this for awhile, although it does sound like the feasibility study will be made public in a couple of months.
