Just so I have your mindset correct?? Restaurant owner is mad at the mayor, fire chief comes in with his family to eat. He's required at dinner time to listen to the restaurant owners rant about the mayor??
In your hypothetical, sure if the guy goes to eat at the owner's restaurant he runs the legal risk of being prosletyzed to. Would it be odd and probably lose business if the owner accosted any and every customer he was at odds with politically? Yeah... but no one said free speech was without consequence. I will say that fire chief to mayor vs DHS secretary to president is kind of an off comparison. She obviously aligns with trump agenda wise whereas a fire chief is full mystery territory.
To OP: I don't support bullying, violent rhetoric, or threatening of harm against any persons... whether its liberals calling for it like Maxine, or conservatives like Donald Trump has (on multiple occasions).
But if you work in politics... heavy is the head that wears the crown. Pass unpopular legislation or actively enforce abhorrent policies? Expect an ear full from constituents. If those some protesters cross the line? Book em.
Either side can decide a politician has passed or supported "mean" legislation, that in no way should be justification for bullying and harassing people in their private lives. Particularly with angry mobs.
What is happening right now is wrong, and no legislation or anything Trump has said or done justifies it.
And yes, we all know Trump has said mean things at times. As has the left who daily calls him and his supporters nazis and white supremacists, and have since before he was even elected.
People need to get a grip and turn down the rage. This is a democracy, not France in the dark ages.

Thanks. The point wasn’t about whether I do or don’t want to see Trump’s tax returns. It was more that something extremely out of the ordinary was “required” for Obama, but something very benign and done by all candidates wasn’t adhered to by Trump. A double standard and a bit ironic considering.
in political fairness, I'll concede that....however, also understand this is why I despise political reindeer games

And I would make the points that the one you describe as "very benign and done by all candidates" is pretty useless information (when is the last time anything significant was disclosed), and the one you describe as "extremely out of the ordinary" seems to happen very frequently (we knew, for example, that GWB's Yale GPA was higher than Gore's at Harvard) and probably should be required.
We are hiring someone to do a job. Do you put your GPA on your resume? What about your tax returns?

So they aren't allowed the luxury of eating dinner with their families in public without fear of being accosted? That's only reserved for civilians?

Harass? No. Public feedback? Sure.
Town halls, open forums, public speeches and press conferences are "public feedback"
Stalking people with angry mobs at dinner, the movies and at their homes is not public feedback.
Its public bullying and intimidation.
In their minds there is no difference.

Actually, I couldn't care less about OBlunder's student records. That's old news and he's out, thank God. We survived him and that's all I need to know.
But, I'll give you one thing. He might not have been smart but he sure was conniving. For that he gets an A+. He failed in everything else as nothing good came of it. Oh, he also gets an A+ for his cabinet, they all resembled him and were loyal to the end. Too bad that they weren't good people though, I might have even sided with him. I didn't think he would be a good president, I had him tagged from the very beginning and I was proven right. I guess you can say that I have dog sense as dogs can smell a rat, I did.

Shouting? Dunno. A congressman shouted at the President of the United States while he was addressing Congress. Seems like fair game. Intimidation? No.
so you're okay with suspending the rules of Congress which apportion 'time' for rebuttal as a matter of discourse... you're okay with just shouting out things?
You didn't say this but I'm also not okay with protesting people while they are eating dinner... or with their families... especially while complaining about Trump's lack of decorum.

I wasn't a birther (my mother was born in Hawaii as well, before it was a state) but Not remotely the same thing. We can talk about whatever we want to over here... or on the news, and not interfere with him doing his job. In a Q&A session, I think most things are fair game. Interrupting his state of the union (or whatever) to ask about it would have been wrong imo.

I am always against violence. I also am against hate and anger no matter what side you are on. We should never ever make people out as evil if you do not know them. That is what we are doing to people who are not from this country. Many of them have good intentions trying to escape the violence themselves.

Because it wasn’t necessary. Regardless, my point isn’t to get into a birther debate. My point is there is no high ground here.
Why wasn't it necessary?
Remember, my consistent position from the first time I commented on this issue was that place of birth did not matter, he was a US citizen by birth (and hence a natural born citizen) by virtue of his mother's US citizenship. I know, there was a statute in effect for a while that placed some technical restrictions on lex sanguinis citizenship that she didn't meet, but particularly since that law had been repealed, I don't think the Supreme Court under the circumstances would have had a problem throwing it out.
That being the case, I always wondered why he played so coy with it. Hell, I know more about the history of almost any other US president or almost any other current world leader than I do about Obama.
You're falling into whataboutism as predicted in one of the earliest posts.

I don't condone any of it, but I would be more vocal in my displeasure about the various incidents if the folks here were more civil to me (which they're not at all). It's kind of hard to criticize bullies elsewhere when you're being bullied at the same time in a cyber variety.
That said, sadly, my (much more) liberal siblings seem to be getting angrier and angrier all the time in their various texts to me. I pray they're not one of the ones in the news next for doing something which crosses the line.

I didn't. I thought he would be a uniter but with bad policies. That he would be better than the divisive Hillary. Instead he was the arrogant divider-in-chief. He may have been worse than Hillary in that he wasn't totally incompetent. Hillary has the touch of lead.
