What if your 8, 9, or 10 win team loses to a 6 win P5 in a bowl game? (See Memphis, USM, and Northern Illinois this past season). Does that mean your season is a fluke?
I will take Troy’s season vs what Memphis did this year.

Troy vs Memphis (2017)
Both beat ranked P5 teams, Troy won at #25 LSU, Memphis beat #25 UCLA
Memphis also beat #25 Navy
As for bowl games:
Troy destroyed North Texas in New Orleans
Memphis lost by 1 point to Iowa State in front of 57,000 fans
Still I don't think that our season was better or their season was better.
I would have loved to see Troy battle Iowa State in a close game in front of 57,000 spectators on abc. Basically, I prefer epic games vs P5 teams over blowout wins vs subpar opponents. I also enjoyed our bowl games vs Southern Miss in 2008 and Central Michigan in 2009/2010 even though we lost both games in OT, but these games were real battles and are part of our history now!

I have no recollection of what South Carolina's record was the year App beat them but bet your a** I remind my Gamecock friends that App has beaten them. I'll take that over beating Toledo any day.
Maybe, but I just put little stock in beating crappy P5's. It's nice, but you have to keep winning to make it worth anything.
At least when App beat Michigan in 07, that Michigan team turned out to be pretty decent overall. Not the jokes that was the A&M team we beat in 08 or the Arkansas team ULM beat in 2012

I’d rather beat a Arkansas team ranked #8 at the time that went to crap than a 10-2 Memphis team. That win did a lot as for recognition for ULM. I live Houston and people will bring up that game when I’m wearing ULM shirt and the two QB play against Baylor and we didn’t even win that game. None of them bring up us beating Wake Forest though. Lol

It's called an example....and actually proves my point more than if we had beaten a 6-6 P5 bowl team. A win against a 4 win, non-bowl going to UF team moved the meter significantly more than GS beating a 10-3 Bowling Green in the Go Daddy Bowl.
And since you wanted to throw out some greater than stats...... 6>3.

UCLA was a 6-6 team. Navy was not a legitimate top-25, either.

Of course, the part of the story that's always omitted from people who like to crap on the win is that our team was completely ravaged with injuries and we were playing a 5'9" 190-pound fullback and Jerick McKinnon was playing a position he hadn't played in forever.

GS’s win versus a four win UF team (that people forgot about two weeks later) is your best win in five years...

Wow, what a burn, the biggest upset in CFB history against a 9-3 New Year's bowl champion was our biggest win in 10 years. You won the internet today...

Also they were 8-4. Maybe math is the problem 8<9
I gotta give it to App fans, they can literally find any reason to tell you about why they think the Michigan win was the greatest game of all time. Even when posters talk about another P5 win and why they enjoyed that win more than a bowl game win, you can be sure that App State fans will chime in to remind you about their upset which is the greatest game in CFB history to them. Psychologists would call it a superiority complex. I just call it having a tiny ****. Same reason they all drive lifted trucks.

9-4 with bowl win, but good point.
Please continue to try and downgrade that Michigan win - helps your credibility in this discussion.

I wouldn't even put it in the top 40 greatest games of all time, but to each their own.

I still have strangers to this day talk about that game when I'm wearing Georgia Southern stuff in public (at least in SEC country). It's a game that sticks in people's heads because Florida is one of the most hated teams in the SEC. Others are just amazed you can do it with not passing yards.

Great game is subjective and it's pointless to try and debate it. But that game wasn't the biggest CFB statistical upset of all time or even in that season, and that's a fact.

I could pull so many CFB lists of all-times, but you'd just ignore others perceptions as well.
It's not a lie if you believe, good talk TBD.

It's just foolish to compare App/Michigan to GS/Florida. App beat a 9 win team that won a New Years Day Bowl Game, and the upset was so historic that it's still talked about regularly nationally to this day.
GS Beat a 4 win Florida team, and the only people who talk about that game are Georgia Southern fans.
