In my opinion CCU has 2

Super safety

And in our last chance at FCS playoffs laying a massive egg at home against the Citadel when our all-american QB Alex Ross threw like 14 interceptions and fumbled I think it was 8 times including on the last drive when we still had a chance to win

RE: Flip Side: your schools lowest athletic moment
2008: the first season as the red wolves started off with a bang, with team winning their first 4 of 6 games including The upset of Texas a&m in college station but then, per the normal with a Steve Roberts squad, by late October early November the team began to crap the bed and ironically dropping 4 of their last 6 on the season, which includes getting thumped by Troy in a de facto sunbelt title game, and Ended the season at 6-6.

What made that season sting even worse was the fact that the Detroit City bowl looked to the sun belt to fill in for the big ten, who couldn’t send a team that season and it essentially came down to Arkansas state and FAU: despite being closer, being a longer established program and beating the owls head to head in the regular season, the bowl elected FAU over Astate (rumors were fau officials had practically bought their entire allotment of tickets not to mention the allure of their coach being legendary head man Howard schnellenberger)

It just sucked-it was truly the epiphany that was Arkansas state football: very short glimmers of success and competitiveness, and ultimate self destructions with little to no rebound or luck whatsoever

Former players dying young (We've had 3 since 2006).

December 5th, 2015.

The day we hired Tyson the Terrible as HC.

The day Erk Russell died and the next day Brian VanDunderhead loses at home to Central Connecticut State after referring to the game as a scrimmage.

2017 beat down to winless GaSo while still fighting for bowl spot.

Every loss to GaSt in football. Especially the first one.

1997: Lost to Division II North Alabama in four OT. Set an NCAA record that year for most ppg allowed.

Ryan Leaf hung 77 on us that year at Wazzou. Good times......not.

RE: Flip Side: your schools lowest athletic moment
I take a little solace in the fact that some of our lowest moments are listed in the thread for other teams' highest moments (2005 TXST, 2015 GaSt). They still hurt though.

I'd actually add the win over Troy in 2016 to the list. Summers was getting fired at the end of the game. Everyone knew it, including Summers. Then Kevin Ellison and company played out of their minds and beat Troy and our AD decided that was enough to keep Summers for another year. Reading that press release that he was being retained was a huge gut punch and cost us the entire 2017 season.

Collectively, being 1 game away from the college world series seven times ('72, '84, '87, '90, '93, '97, '98) and coming up empty. Three of those we were in the drivers seat and lost two on the final day.

Football: Abilene Christian loss in 2014. They were middle of the pack FCS and had a ten point lead on us late in the game, 38-28.

Don't watch enough of the other sports to give that kind of answer.

Have I gotta say it?

Also, to add onto how bad the 2006 season was, that summer we lost both WR Teddy Craft in a motorcycle accident and Erk Russell to a stroke the day before the season started. That season was bad before the first ball was even snapped. The WRs still on the team wore yellow armbands in memory of Teddy for the rest of the time they were on the team. Tim Camp was the last to graduate in 08 still wearing them and it was a sad moment to know that no one would have them on the next year.

Losing football alums Edwin Jackson and Raja Andrews at a young age (although past their playing days) has been tough as well.

Bad seasons can come and go...but we'll never get those guys back.

11-19-1994. Biggest choke in App State history. The 8-2 Apps rolled into the season finale at home vs 0-10 VMI with a share the SoCon title on the line. Just 5 points separated the Mountaineers from being undefeated (12-10 at WF & 34-31 at GA Southern). The Apps rolled into the game averaging 31 ppg and only giving up 15, having held 8 teams to 14 points or less. VMI TRUE FRESHMAN Thomas Haskins, roomate of Dexter Coakley at Fork Union who wanted to come to App, ran for 225 yards as the Keydets won 26-23 in OT. It's largely thought of as one of, if not the single greatest regular-season upset in Southern Conference football history. And I was there to watch every painful second of it.
