Correct. That’s the day that then-President Nedderman announces it was over. A lot of reasons, but one of the few times in the DI era that there was something to look forward to in the upcoming season. All 11 starters from a dynamic offense, eight defensive starters and both kickers were set to return. The home/away schedule was favorable and the Mavericks were seven points away from a conference championship in 1985.

I see people complaining about losses occurred to their program. Actually losing the program really puts that in perspective for me.

Fo, I feel your pain, and it doesn't seem to go away. Last week, our esteemed President Karbhari responded to a question at a staff meeting about bringing football back, saying it would cost $150million to do so, and he didn't want to put that burden on the backs of UT Arlington students. I suppose when we finally do get a team, it will be that much sweeter.

We had a President for 16 years who would not say the word. Hang in there.

Great story about Georgia State! This sounds just like UT Arlington today: The same old cliche's - commuter school, etc.

“Yes, we were once a commuter school oriented toward evening and part-time programs,” says Becker, who came to Georgia State by way of Penn State and the University of Michigan, both of which won football national championships while he was around. “But we now have the full palette for a traditional undergraduate: They can live on campus, and there’s a complete athletics program with football on Saturdays.” It sounds like such a simple thing. Yet when the Panthers, who will eventually play in the Colonial Athletic Association, line up against Shorter University for the first game on September 2, it will have taken Georgia State ninety-seven years to play NCAA football. And its home field? A cozy little place off Northside Drive called the Georgia Dome. (Qoute from Atlanta Magazine.com)

It’s been a long strange ride. Eight years later and we have 10k students living downtown on and off campus and are playing in our own stadium.

Football:
2005 - "The Knee" as it's referred to in San Marcos. FCS semi-finals in San Marcos vs. UNI. UNI ties the game late. I'm not sure how much time was left exactly, but I think it was around 90 seconds to 2 minutes in a 37-37 game. Despite our offense moving the ball with relative ease all game we decide to take a knee and go to OT despite having a couple timeouts in our pocket. We go on to lose in OT.

We were at home. We had the ball at our 25 yard line with 1:16 left and all three timeouts. We had the conference player of the year at quarterback, a guy that had set Texas State records in passing yardage and total yardage. Our head coach decided to take a knee and play for overtime. The most cowardly act by a coach I have ever seen.

Just 5 points separated the Mountaineers from being undefeated (12-10 at WF & 34-31 at GA Southern). The Apps rolled into the game averaging 31 ppg and only giving up 15, having held 8 teams to 14 points or less. VMI TRUE FRESHMAN Thomas Haskins, roomate of Dexter Coakley at Fork Union who wanted to come to App, ran for 225 yards as the Keydets won 26-23 in OT. It's largely thought of as one of, if not the single greatest regular-season upset in Southern Conference football history. And I was there to watch every painful second of it.

This game was awful. If I had to counter this, Liberty was pretty embarrassing. But I would take it to the 2000 NCAA semifinal vs Montana that App lost in overtime 19-16. A game that should have been won, because a Georgia Southern-Appalachian NCAA title game in Chattanooga would have been insane. App beat Troy and Western Kentucky on the road in the opening rounds, and lost to GS by 3 in Statesboro earlier that year. Wanted that second chance to beat them, and losing that game to Montana robbed us of a chance for revenge.

Losing to UCA at home in 2016...we looked like crap, played flat
Losing to Nichols State on Thanksgiving Day in Joe Hollis’ last game, he got fired officially right after the game.
As one of our posters mentioned, pretty much 1990-2010 should be erased from history.

In no particular order,

In 2012, The loss to Utah State (FCS) to the season and giving up that 4th and 25 or so to Texas State was bad and lose the game. If we would have won 1 or 2 of those game would won 7 or 8 games and made a bowl game instead of 6-6 with a FCS loss.

That meltdown against Arkansas State in 2015, where we were winning then all everything went wrong. We made Sportscenter for that one. We were up 31 to 20 with 13:21 left in the 4th. Arkansas State scored 4 TDs to close the game 49 to 31.

Or when we beat Miss State or a ranked San Diego State, or a very good Troy team and don't take care of business to make it a good/great year.

USA out-of-conference has had some great highlights.

Thanks for the reminder. Watched the highlights again.

When we hired Ray Authemont to clean up the death penalty mess, and he over-reacted for his entire 40 year tenure as President.

Barrick Nealy was pretty damn good.

The fact that you had Tom Herman calling plays was not to be overlooked either.

But I'll never forget the guy in the leather jacket on the front row absolutely losing his mind when the team kept taking knees.

I realize you idolize Jerry Moore, but accusing someone of lying is a bit extreme. Especially when you really don't know what you're talking about. I am no fan of Charlie Cobb, but know Ken Peacock very well. I was very close to this situation and can tell you with 100% certainty the story you believe to be true is not. Fortunately this is in the past and we're moved on.

It is clearly laid out in the FOIA request. Moore was told at the beginning of the season it would be his last, it was Moore's choice not to announce it prior or during the season, then he thought he could strong arm the university into another year after the season. Sad it had to end that way, for a great coach and otherwise a great man.

Easy

1A The VanGorder hire.
1B The Summers hire.

The embarrassing losses and misery that ensued could have easily been avoided by simply hiring literally almost anyone else that interviewed for the job.
