Promote the friendly rivalry
School's PR department really need to promote the friendly rivalry between Hardaway and Norvell.

Show how they are trying to one up each other with recruiting.

Promote them both together in the public eye.

Make them the face of the city of Memphis.

Get them out there front and center so the local recruits and fans can identify with them personally.

And what does that have to do promoting two young energetic coaches who in a friendly way are trying to one up the other one when it comes to energizing the Tiger fans base and grabbing top recruits?

No one is trying to "one up" anyone.

Sometimes i wonder how many on this board can even breath without instructions.

They may not be consciously trying to out do the other but that is what they are doing.

The energy created by Penny has found it's way into the Norvell camp and has him working even harder.

Norvell has turned up his energy and his recruit in face of Penny's hiring.

Yeah because clearly Norvell was coasting before the Penny hire....

OMFG how pig headed can people get?

Who in hell said anything about coasting?

You can be working hard and STILL increase your energy level. Which has happened this year. He is getting people to visit which he has not been able to get to visit in the past. He is getting recruits at levels he had not been able to get in the past.

Our class score is 57.20 with only 3 recruits. Last year it was 146.90 with 23 recruits. ZERO 4 stars last year and 2 so far this year. How can anyone not see that he has far more energy when it comes to recruiting this season.

Norvell has always had his energy turned up. Penny’s hiring has nothing to do with Norvell’s efforts. Your hypothesis is a failure.

Really dumb idea. Why would you want to put them at odds with each other and split up the fan base.

Has nothing to do with his increased “energy” as you surmise. It has to do with him building our program into a successful major college football program with a fun style and a great group of coaches who care for their players and are great on the field instructors too. The sky is now the limit at Memphis.

In the past? You mean like 40 years ago? Or did you forget when Norvell was hired. He had to prove he could coach, now he is getting higher rated players coming.

Last thing we want to do is cause a rift between our two coaches, drop this rivalry crap.

Norvell was not coasting but the Penny hire has brought a lot of 901 hometown hype that Norvell is capitalizing on

of course

that's why this OP's thread is absurd

BB / FB recruiting is synergistic if anything (ncrdbl, that syner word means 1+1 = 3)

It's been a minute since the Tigers have been a major BRAND in the two main sports at the same time,,,,,I honestly can't remember,,,,these are good times

Actually, as long as it's tongue in cheek, and funny, I kind of like it.

Remember that McDonalds commercial. If it's like that, then I'm down 03-wink

There is know such thing as a friendly rivalry. Rivalry is competition against each other. Penny and Norvell has the same objective to recruit and promote tiger athletics. Not compete against each other. Go Tigers Go!

I think the OP's choice of words was poor, but the concept is somewhat sound.

A commercial where Penny / Norvell are constantly doing cool things (not recruiting, just more and more implausible neat crap) and the commercial ends with them both doing something equally cool might be funny.

Having said that, probably hard to pull off and might accidentally hit the wrong note.

Still, I've heard worse ideas...
