Sports Gambling may soon be legal (outside of Nevada)
The Supreme Court passed a ruling today which could pave the way for legalized sports gambling. It's still unclear where but in the states that now allow it, it's likely to be at existing gambling places for now (like in New Jersey which will probably be the first state to start it up, I'll assume Atlantic City and then horse racing tracks will be among the first places to allow it).
I'd say this is off-topic but two of the first four states that may allow it are West Virginia and Mississippi, and apparently the state law in West Virginia may actually send some money to Marshall and West Virginia from future sports gambling taxes.

While awaiting Monday's ruling, seven states — Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Iowa, New York, Mississippi and West Virginia — had laws prepared to make sports betting legal and may be able to be ready before the NFL's season begins in September.
Thirteen other states have plans or proposals to consider legalizing sports betting: California, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and South Carolina.

Long overdue! I think that list is wrong with Kentucky...We had a purposed bill that was not even read during session which is now over...Our governor is a moron and he would rather have more excuses why we cannot fund pensions, cut education and not give raises to state employees vs. having more revenue to do so...That would take the lawmakers excuses away why they cannot fund items.....So I expect Kentucky to be the last state to legalize sports betting.....Churchill Downs and Keeneland want only horse racing to be bet on and for that to be a monopoly....
This is huge and will certainly raise revenue in any state that is prepared to enact this quickly....

I'm surprised Louisiana isn't in that group of 20? They have a lot of casinos already in the state too.
Texas will be after Kentucky would be my guess.

Not a gambler, but very happy with the outcome and hopeful of impact in other issues that might come before the federal courts in the future.

Louisiana will as soon as they see all of that money going to Mississippi. I wouldn’t bet (no pun intended) on Texas though.

I was referring to the WKU fan who said Kentucky would be the last state to legalize it. I think they would legalize it before Texas.

This could be the best thing to ever happen to Shreveport and Lake Charles. If the great state of Louisiana is smart, they pitch this as a way to pay for the portion of TOPS that the lottery can't cover. But we're a stupid state so we will find some way to piss it all away on something useless.

Very true, try to capitalize on it before the Indian casinos.
Many don’t know but there was bill to legalize video poker and slots at Lone Star Track but an Indian tribe came in and bought Lone Star track for millions. Not mention the millions they give to legislators to squash any legalization. Truly shady deals but never gets talked about. That is the main reason it will never passed has nothing to do with religion.

Texas can be a bit of an enigma when it comes to vices. We still can't by beer/wine till after noon on Sundays (no liquor at all) but I have a horse racing track with para-mutual betting less than 5 minutes from my house.
If the state was smart, they'd finally kill off the Blue Law and have a sports book at the Horse Tracks in the state. It'd make a ton of money for the state and most of the tracks would become solid healthy businesses instead of the messes they are now.

How is Florida not one of the states on the list? We have a bunch of casinos (not counting the Indians). I guess, South Florida is a much more liberal place than the rest of the state, which is more highly represented in the Florida legislature.

Texas won’t make gambling legal, certain lobbies in Oklahoma prevent that with a whole lot of $$$ being shipped south

Heard on radio Florida might be last state to pass this law due to the strong presence of Disney who is against betting...

North Carolina won’t, but there have been rumors of an Indian casino opening in northern SC near Charlotte for years.
This might be the push that puts them over.

Probably one the most crooked back dealings out there, but never gets talk about.
Because Indian tribes are basically untouchable and no public scrutiny. They even have there own "Gaming Commission" that oversees the Casino
