RE: Who has the Best Nickname in the Sunbelt Conference?
The two most unique ones are the Ragin Cajuns and the Chanticleers, so those get my vote. All the others are pretty common.

I do like the Mountaineers, I think that is an unique nickname because it really does represent Boone to a T. Plus there is only one Redwolves, Warhawks, and maybe a couple of Mavericks.

West Virginia is also the Mountaineers though along with a few other small schools. Not saying it isn't a cool nickname, just saying it's not unique to App like the Cajuns or the Chants are to their schools.

And like the Mountaineers, which plays to the Boone area of course, at least the Cajans part plays to the immediate area around Lafayette. But the Cajans are even more unique as a nickname.

I'd go with Cajuns for best, eagles for worst since there's like 1000 teams that are eagles.

Most bird and feline mascots are overused, honestly.
Heck if you don't count Southern Miss (I don't) you have the same number of teams with Eagle nickname as the Panthers.

Starting to like these polls, do we need another one lol. We got all the way to Sept. I like both the Eagles and Bobcat mascots. I really think it’s unique to the area. I know there is bobcats in Texas, sure they are Eagles in Georgia.

Don't ask why but when I was younger, I had a fascination with bobcats (maybe it was because we'd occasionally see one where I grew up) so personally, I like 'Bobcats.'
On a unique level, "Ragin Cajuns and Chanticleers" are definitely tops (you say those two names to knowledgeable college fans and more likely than not will immediately know those two names are linked with Coastal and Lafayette).
Mountaineers, Red Wolves, Mavericks, and Warhawks while maybe not so much "one of a kind" I think all the universities have done pretty solid jobs marketing and perpetuating their nicknames and individual entities to the point where they've certainly made it their own
The rest are kind of same ole, same ole (no offense)

I guess now that I think about it there aren't that many eagle mascots. Just y'all, Southern Miss(they count to me), and BC that I can think of off the top of my head.
I guess I thought that way because it's highly prevalent amongst high schools in centex.

Eastern Michigan, Eastern Washington, Winthrop, and FGCU too. (I only know the last two because we've hosted them in basketball and that was a cluster**** for the announcers).

You don't have to backpeddle, I think originality absolutely does count for something. I just don't think the "Eagle" is on another level of lack of originality from some of the other nicknames in the conference.

Tie between Ragin' Cajuns and Red Wolves. I think stAte is the only school who came out of the mascot changes from Indian names way better than they went in.
