I can't wait to see how Penny plays all these guards. Perhaps he should come up with new position names like the DCs in football do. And we may add another ...
That said ... Lomax and Harris are going to be limited by their height. Playing both at the same time will be a liability.

Should be a better shooting team w/ additions of Harris and Jones and potential outside shooting improvement from Thornton, Davenport, Maurice & Martin.

As of now, this is what I have..

Lomax
Martin
Thornton
Davenport
Parks

Jones could work his way into the starting line up and Harris could push Lomax for the starting position. Brewton, Enoh and Maurice will have roles as well. Im excited to see how the roster pans out. Still pretty good as of now.

I'd roll with that lineup, assuming Martin is back 100% from his injury, and assuming Parks stays in shape, cuz he's gonna have to RUN!

Parks mentioned in his interview that he will work to get into shape for pennys style.

I agree...

That is the logical lineup maybe swapping the PG duties. But if any of the other Freshmen start at the beginning of the season I would say they are exceeding expectations.

The starting lineup will likely change over the course of the season.

Lomax, Harris, Jones, Davenport, Parks jr. could develop.

Lomax, Brewton, Thornton, Davenport, Parks jr.

The lineups are intriguing.

And it ain't over.

I think we are winning a few this year.

Who is the comp so far?

Nowhere is your post do I see Martins name. The most ready to play, toughest and best defensive player on the team. Not only will he start, but he will get the most minutes at the 2-3 spots if healthy. I have not seen Jones play.

You don't need to see him play.
Parrish has.
He says Jones will far and away be the best player on the floor for the Tigers.
That should be good enough for most Tiger fans.

I'll trust his opinion far more than yours.

I'm just looking for 100% balls to the wall effort while in the game. Plenty of subs so play hard, get a breather, go back in.

Should be fun to watch.

As of today, the most likely starting group is Lomax, Martin, Jones, Davenport, and Parks with Harris, Thornton, and possibly Maurice getting the bulk of the minutes off the bench. Brewton should get minutes in spots, but if he is getting a lot of minutes, that probably means Lomax or Harris are having troubles adjusting to the college game, or one of those two or Martin are injured.

But we don't even know what the full roster situation looks like, so...

Harris and Lomax are both undersized, 100-150 ranked freshman guards. They are going to have a significant learning curve. To expect much from them, especially the first half of the season is a little unreasonable to me. Brewton is still going to see a lot of minutes, as he should.

Something to note: other than Lomax, we don’t have a true PG.

Ask Parrish how many times he has seen him play-he just came up on our radar recently; and I will reiterate (this happens every season) again-a lot of posters rely on rankings of kids around 100 to say who is going to start. We haven't had a good true PG in a long time. Lomax has the PG job to lose.

Gary is quoting what he heard from other college staffs that jones by far will be the most talented player on the team.

Can't wait to see how the guys gel. I'm sure they'll naturally sort themselves out. Fun to have the talent to compete for a change.

I'd go:

Lomax
Harris
Martin
Davenport
Parks

Also expect Jones and Maurice to get a lot of minutes off bench. This is not a slight to those guys either. I've always been a fan of having a stud come off the bench to provide scoring with second group or add a spark to second group.

Brewton is more ready, but also has the lowest ceiling of all the options (Martin, Lomax, Harris, Jones). Plus, he's the one guy that Penny really doesn't owe anything. He will be the solid backup for multiple guys, but he won't get starter minutes over the other four.

Guessing as always these quotes are anonymous, the GP special. Why do these coaches who GP wants us to believe flock to him with their opinions need anonymity to complement a player who has signed an LOI?

GP also assured us, several times, while several on this board were saying he was wrong, that 'anyone who knows Gregg Marshall doesn't think for a second' that Marshall will let Lomax out of his LOI. And, of course, GP was wrong again, Marshall let Lomax out of his LOI within 24 hours of Penny getting the job.
