RE: Worst month in Sports?
I like college baseball and look forward to the college football hype in August, so July the most uneventful for me.

It's February.
While the Super Bowl, Daytona 500, and both NBA and NHL All Star games are in February, the other 24/25 days are very meh.

July has Wimbledon Finals, The Open Championship, MLB ASG, US Women's Open, the major UFC card of the year/International Fight Week, and some international soccer tournament of consequence most years.

Who still watches All-Star competitions? What is this, 1985? What can be done that hasn't already been done, especially the slam dunk contest and 3-point shootout in basketball? Who wants to watch a half hearted, mediocre played game with a bunch of players who usually don't wanna be there?

Imagine if the Super Bowl was still in January, things would be really bad.

College basketball is over, for good. Big letdown after the best tournament in the world is over.

After the hooplah around MLB opening day, the grind starts. It's interesting to follow, but can't go to games yet because it's too cold and kids are still in school.

It's the worst part of the NBA and NHL seasons. End of the regular season so 98% of the games are meaningless. All the good teams are resting their starters for the playoffs, and I don't really care if the last playoff spot is taken by the #8 or the #9 team.

I think April is probably the most action-packed non-football month. MLB opening day, the NCAA Final and The Masters are basically back-to-back-back at the beginning of the month. You're correct that the last few games of the NBA and NHL regular seasons are brutal to watch, but the playoffs for both sports started right after The Masters this year, so there really isn't any gap during April of high quality sporting events going on. The NFL Draft is always the last week of April, too.

I guess April is the most boring for what I watch.

I watch college basketball, college football, Olympics, and MLB (in that order). The only other thing I make a point to watch is NHL/NBA finals.

I never liked golf or soccer. Women's tennis is allright, but men's tennis has too many aces to be exciting (so does men's volleyball). The NFL lost me with Mike Brown's stadium shenanigans (6 months after Cincinnati signed a lease with the Bengals, the Bengals hired the chief negotiator for the city/county at a really nice salary). I still watched the NFL occasionally until they started the SJW stuff the last few years - other than Thanksgiving Day, I haven't watched the NFL in 2 years.

It's also cool seeing the weird sports on TV. Like American Ninja Warrior. Or this morning there was random dirtbike race on NBC that was really neat.

July does have some big international events but they are generally frontloaded. After the MLB All star game it's just dead. August is a close 2nd by August the drought is almost over, in July it's just beginning

Arena League .... I don't even know how they're still operating anymore. Their collective bargaining agreement is a boat anchor they can't haul. Aren't they down to less than 8 teams? Indoor football needs to be more minor league baseball-ish. There should be regional teams in any decent sized city with an indoor arena that's fairly modern.

Yes, but isn't it just depressing the day after the Super Bowl when you know there's no meaningful football for seven long months? Despite the excellent college hoops, and NBA action, that casts a pall on February for me.

The meat of the season for bubble teams is early March.

Mid major conference tournaments start the last week in February. I love those

August. I was born in August for a reason. So I could celebrate my birthday without it interfering with my sports Jones.

In my opinion its July. After the MLB all star game, the sports calendar bottoms out only picking up with the NFL preseason, which is an event simply because its something new

I agree. College baseball could benefit from shifting the start of the season a couple of weeks later, having the conference tournaments end in June and run the College World Series in July sometime after the MLB All-Star game. That is pro forma part of the next "year" for membership purposes, but the conference baseball activities would complete while any school on the move is still a member of the conference.

I think I'd have to cast my vote for February.

No Football
No Baseball
Dog days of the NHL season
Monotonous talk about the combine and the draft

About the only thing going is the Daytoner Fav-hunnert

Close second to July.

Dog days of baseball
No NHL
Start getting that itch for football again only to realize it's a month away.

Super Bowl, National Signing day, NBA all star weekend. Every four years you get some Winter Olympics action.

February isn't the greatest but it's better than July/August

+1 I was going to say the exact same thing. August is just a giant tease for football season which doesn't help

I'll give you the SB, but that's at the beginning of the month. I'll also give you the Olympics, but that's only once every 4 years.

National signing day has lost it's luster a bit thanks to the early signing period and I'd rather watch paint dry than watch the NBA.

I'd say it's a dead heat for what would be most against the Geneva Convention for torture, the NBA or Golf......

Sure - personal preferences certainly come into play. If you're a European soccer fan, then August is a fantastic month since that's the start of the regular season for the Premier League and other European leagues.

If you're looking at the "average" US sports fan, he/she generally pays attention to the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, college football, college basketball, the major tournaments in golf and tennis, Triple Crown horse races, and international events where national pride is on the line (e.g. the Olympics and World Cup). People may personally like or dislike certain items that I just listed and/or have varying levels of interest in them, but those are objectively all "major" sporting events in the United States. Auto racing and soccer have passionate core fan bases, too, so they have their own important events throughout the calendar (e.g. Daytona 500, Indy 500, Champions League, etc.).
