Obama skipping a First Lady's funeral for SxSW vs Trump skipping so he's not taking attention from the funeral. And remember the Bush family were also Never Trumpers. They probably would prefer he not attend.

Trump hates absolutely everything about the Bushes, so this is no surprise.

Yeah, there's that and the logistical nightmare plus all the attention would be on Trump and not on where it belongs.

Nothing is more important than a few rounds of golf. The Trump excuse makers will show up to tell you different though. They've made more excuses for Trump in six months, than anyone ever had to do for Obama in eight years.

I cant stand Trump, but the logistics of having the President descend upon a funeral is a logistical nightmare for all.

I’m sure, too, the family does not want him there.

I agree with your last statement, but you're likely to have 4 ex-presidents there already in Both Bush's, Clinton and Carter along with scores of other Senators and Governors, etc. Having the current one there isn't going to add that much to the logistical issues regarding protection. Not too mention the First Lady is going I believe, and she'll get about as much protection as what donald would get.

I criticized oblunder for skipping Nancy's funeral, so I am criticizing Trump for skipping Barbara's funeral. I understand the logistical nightmare that comes with this in this area, believe me, I live a couple of blocks away and the funeral where she was staying is across the street from me, but its just bad optics here.

I doubt Trump will attend any President or First Ladies' funeral. Which one of the living ones of those two groups does he actually get along with? Barbara Bush was already on record saying she couldn't vote for Trump - he's probably still mad at her for that.

I’m genuinely surprised to hear that about Bush/43. I’d be curious to know what he had going on that day.

FDR and Herbert Hoover hated each other. Plus it was wartime and for the President to have travelled from DC to Stanford on short notice for non-military reasons would’ve been frivolous in a time of strict rationing, not to mention very time-consuming (a day to get there, a day to get back) in the days before jet travel.
