Have we won an extra-inning game all season? Or, given it's now 4:30pm when the 8th inning ends, is this game going to be a tie?

The wild pitch allowed that single to score a run. Once again...fundamentals...killing us.

So Dunlap singles....SURELY we will pinch run for him here, right? Regardless of what happens, this is the last inning so we HAVE to get him around.

Curfew. What curfew. We don’t need no stinkin’ curfew.

Sarchet line out to RF.
Dunlap singles.
New pitcher, Wigginton again...
Collins grounded out, but Dunlap advanced to 2B. Two outs. Need a clutch hit.
Gneiting grounded out. Ugh.

If this is truly the final inning, we're playing for a tie. Come on, Kendall, hope you have enough gas left to finish this one.

Tie or loss...

What a horrible, disappointing weekend. Yet another one that we should have won or swept. Something has to change.

Sidearm Stats shows a 5-5 final, but their play-by-play showed a 2 out walk as the last play.

What happened. Not that it matters

1958 perhaps? We do have a tie listed that year. Actually we sort of had one five days ago too in the UH game. For some reason, Gametracker was listing it as a 1-1 tie earlier this week (but of course we lost the game 1-0).

Next question... does a tie count as a half win in percentage calculations ( that’s how NFL and most leagues now do it). If so could give us an edge on UTSA if it comes to it for tourney qualifying...

Rice Baseball Fact Book shows a 12-9-1 record in 1958, but the May 1958 Sallyport said that year's baseball team's record was 12-11. Spring 1958 Threshers did not indicate any ties ... but did not give results for all the games either.

The next-earliest tie was in the 1946 season, which the Fact Book notes as having a 7-10-1 record.

In that year, the Owls played the semi-pro Baytown Humble Oilers to a 5-5 tie in a game that, as reported in the April 4, 1946, Thresher, "was a great day for the Owl nine who Saturday reversed the old adage of looking good on paper and not on the field. ...

"That '105 in the shade' Saturday afternoon at Baytown must have taken some of the kinks out of the Owls, for they stood up and slugged it out with the Baytowners to a five-five deadlock. It was a game that had all the thrilling variety that makes for an exciting one—spectacular plays, fine spirit, good hitting, good fielding, and then too, a little dose of not-so-good fielding to touch it off."

On one hand, the Owls offense has looked a lot like the Astros the last week. On the other hand, the Astros just got their 1st hit tonight in the 8th inning against the 40+ year old Bartolo Colon.

He's either 42 or 43 by now. Seriously.

So how does the tournament work. If we are tied with MTSU for the final slot, how do they break the tie?

The last active Montreal Expos player!

Somebody tweeted last night that he also played with Jackie Robinson on the 55 Dodgers, which makes the fact he did this on Robinson Day all the more special.
