I thought it was common knowledge that Penny had Brown's back when they were both with the Knicks. I have no issue at all with Penny's judgement and I have no issue at all with the admin if they decide to hire Brown.

I sincerely hope that something is in the works to bring Larry in as "_____" to allow this to settle,then announce LB as AC when the smoke clears

If you are worried then just have Penny assign him as a non recruiting asst coach. Penny feels he needs this guy to have day to day contact with the players to help mold them into a championship contender.

He has been busted 3 times. Shouldn't mentoring come from a role model?

Some didn’t want Tubby fired. Some didn’t want Penny hired.

I havent looked in here in a long time due to health issues and didnt realize that in the interim people had lost their minds and decided we “need” to risk having any future wins vacated after an inevitable cheating investigation that would certainly come right after hiring him. I see in the initial post of this thread and others a default position that the preference would be to have him here if somebody wasn’t preventing it. (Thank god if someone sane in the administration *is* preventing it.)

You actually want to invite an investigation here during an current major FBI probe of top NCAA teams? You have forgotten our past history that no one else outside our school has forgotten with vacated championships and Calipari and Dana Kirk?

LB would be a fabulous idea if he hadn’t had a career that included NCAA investigations and sanctions of his last teams at Kansas and SMU. But unfortunately he’s got that history and it assures he will be scrutinized intensely in any NCAA coaching. We need to maintain high standards rather than demonstrate we have none other than wanting to win. Any advancements and championships we win will be lost and vacated if we wind up in a scandal and we will be a bigger laughing stock than we are by having a past low attendance problem.

Just find someone to help who can do it without inviting scandal! It’s not impossible. It’s being lazy to only look to the easy dark side path. And the consequences to making mistake like that are to lose everything you thought you were gaining. Not worth it! It’s a bad look for the school and adds baggage we don’t need. It doesn’t help Brown either. He needs to try to go out with some dignity and he won’t gain that by inviting scandal. If he wants to work in basketball in his twilight years for some reason (given he doesn’t need the money) he should stick with the NBA and avoid the NCAA.

Please don’t beg for vacated championships, baggage, and recruiting violations! Steer the ship clear of that. Penny doesn’t yet have any of that and the school needs to stay clear of it.

If our admin has vetted Brown and think it is a good idea, I trust them. Brown's past and the perception that everyone would have of us means that there will be a big cost even if Brown stays clean.

If our admin “vetted” Brown and accepted him, then they are corrupt and insane. I hope it’s not true. He is a terrible idea. He should not accept any offer from an NCAA program if it comes up if he values his own chance at a decent future, free of past baggage. He doesn’t need the money and ought to care more about Penny if he’s such pals than to drag him down during an NCAA probe by the FBI or any other time. I’m disappointed to hear it’s even being considered. These rumors must be being promoted by gossipmonger Calkins. I wish he would get a life and get out of fan forums if he is in here anonymously and stop trying to control the future by his incessant yapping like he started doing the last weeks of Tubby’s tenure. The media must think they are demigods. I’m glad we have Penny though and I pray we don’t wind up ruining that by missteps re ethics issues when he’s getting started. LB would invite the impression of ethics issues and investigations from here on out even if he behaved like a saint (which he possibly would but it wouldn’t matter).

Re the comment someone made trying to compare this to “some didn’t want Penny hired” is apples and oranges. Those who didn’t want Penny hired never said he was unethical. They questioned his ability to coach. (I don’t question his potential or ability by the way or I can live with any reservations I have on ability.) No one questions Brown’s ability to coach but no one in their right mind would invite an NCAA investigation by hiring him to an NCAA program especially during an FBI national probe or any other time.

Brown himself should refuse too. It only will cause him stress and he has so much else to give the world elsewhere than the NCAA. If he wants to be in basketball, the NBA is the best fit. He is getting older though and may not want to be in basketball even in the NBA now.

It shows a lack of judgment that either Penny or the administration considered Brown. Other schools are not fools and certainly would have grabbed him if they didn’t know it was a bad idea for both Brown and the schools. Whatever school hires him has no ethics. He should himself avoid it. No matter how right he tries to do things he will have this baggage with the NCAA. He can do better doing other work.
