RE: Mike Bloomgren's 1st Rice recruiting class
This is probably a prime example of the difference in Stanford and Rice recruiting and why Stanford have been so successful. I would guess these kids were on Standford's radar or the assistant's radar before coming to Rice. I hope this continues but the recruiting budget will have to increase. I hope we still have Canadian ties and still can recruit there.

Got our LS for the class. Lembo recruited him. #16 LS in the country according to his twitter. Whatever that means...

Add AZ to the list! Now this has to be close to the most national class ever for Rice.

In fairness, it goes beyond the recruiting budget. Palo Alto and the Bay Area is a MUCH more attractive destination that Houston to the vast majority of out-of-staters. Oh, there's also that little thing regarding the HUGE difference in conference affiliation. That's reality whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

We're not going to out-recruit Stanford in football.... but I'd offer everyone they want, but don't have room/need for. Maybe they accept Stanford and then get tired of sitting on the bench and want to start... or be a grad transfer for a year or two

Keller Chryst is heading to Tennessee. I think quite a few pages back we were speculating he could end up at Rice.

Cool. I wasnt big on Chryst so glad we didn't put our eggs in that basket.

Had Stanford had a better QB than Chryst last year that Georgia tech record of +222 may have been seriously challenged.

RE: Mike Bloomgren's 1st Rice recruiting class
We still seem to be recruiting a lot of players. Some are for future classes, but some still fit into this year's class somehow. One who tweeted recently he's coming to Rice is Bradley Bass, a 6-1, 195 LB from Reicher Catholic in Waco (he's also a RB but I'm assuming he will be a LB at Rice). My guess is he's a walk-on but I don't know for sure.

That's at least 27 new Owls (28 counting the Vandy transfer). I wouldn't be surprised if we're talking about the most 1st year Owls ever. Some, like Armstrong probably, are for sure redshirt candidates. But give them a few years to develop and see what happens.

23 (or 24 if you count the Vandy transfer) signed letters of intent in December and February. But since then, I believe we've offered an additional four scholarship offers. It's all detailed in the very first post of this thread, way back on page 1. There may be more than 4 - it's tough to keep pace with the offers since they're coming so fast and furiously. That doesn't include the walk-ons.

It’s hard to tell with some of these recent guys with regard to their scholarship status.

One of our first offers of the 2019 class, the RB from Bartram Trail, committed to GT. He had lots of other offers though so not a surprise.

We also won’t get that guy Luke Deal from SC who we offered early in the cycle.
