WKU Lady Topper coach Michelle Clark Heard leaving
Women's hoop coach MCH has taken the same position with Cincinnati. Word is she was worried and put off by the budget cuts hitting WKU and the loss of her director of basketball operations on her staff as the position was cut from budget. I honestly don't blame her one bit for being upset after the success she has had and to then have her budget eaten into more while football is able to add another new assistant this season after the NCAA allowed for an additional position.

Yea sucks we lost MCH, but I understand her issues, was only 5th highest paid coach in CUSA which was a slap in the face compared to her achievements....WKU just could not pay her anymore and womens basketball has zero parity and pretty much 1 great team and 3 other good teams and that's it...Just sucks she is going to a place where average attendance was 427 people this past season and has zero success in women's basketball, that is the most disappointing part but you cannot blame her, these budget cuts suck!
I think Collins will be fine as long as he gets a recruiter in who can continue recruiting at a high level, he has already proven developing players is an area he is very strong in....

RE: WKU Lady Topper coach Michelle Clark Heard leaving
Time to cut the fat out of the number of coaches and staff needed in all sports....easiest way to cut cost . It should start in every AD department
In 5 years Western's coaching and staff has went up $2,683,889 and the other related "AD departments" have kept pace with those...or more.
You can add 1/3 to the below numbers just for benefits
To be honest just because the NCAA lets you have a 10th asst coach in football...doesn't mean you need it. Western should have left that position unfilled. If you can win 2 conference championships and get ranked without it...not needed.
Travel expense is something talked about on this board, a lot. The largest increase is coming from staff and not just your head or asst coaches.
Director of Athletics (department) has over $600,000 in salary (9 people) Five years ago that number was around $250,000 (salary)
These are separate from the Director of Athletics
Athletic Facilities $178,356.00 staff of 3
Athletic Marketing $88,428.00 staff of 2
Athletic Media Relations $193,140.00 staff of 5
Athletic Trainer $371,955.12 staff of 8
Athletic Ticket Manager $142,677.00 staff of 3
Student Athlete Success Center $155,131.68 staff of 4
Mens basketball $976,766.88 staff of 10 people
Football has 18 people on the payroll and a total salary of $2,285,952.00
Baseball 4 people $335,136.00
Mens Track & Field is a bargain at $65,286.00 (2 people)
Women's Track & Field $107,130.00 (3 people)
Lady Toppers $432,264.00 for 6 coaches and staff
VolleyBall $180,084.00 staff of 3 people
SoftBall $143,904.00 staff of 3 people
Women's Soccer $121,992.00 of 3 people

Your reference to MCH salary position in CUSA got me looking. I found this reference, which links to a google doc that someone put together.

IN THE REAL WORLD, which I’ve worked in for the last 30 yrs...If you don’t produce revenue, you’re gone. Some sports just don’t produce the equivalent revenue as others. I’m just sayin’.

What a time to be alive. Literally against the law to cut a bunch of programs that drain university finances and resources year in and year out.

You can make that argument against most if not all college sports...mens included.
There's also a D1 rule telling each school the bottom limit on how many sports they must play. If you dont meet that you drop from D1

No you can't. Men's football and basketball routinely bring in revenue for most schools every year.

Are you sure it's Cincinnati. Thought she would take the Old Miss job. They upped their offer and it's the SEC over AAC.

Thats only 2 sports that men play and do they bring in enough to cover cost? Some do and some don't . Do you believe S. Miss is bring in 1.5 to 2 million in mens basketball?. At Western the Lady Toppers probably bring in more money than S. Miss does on mens basketball.
If you want to drop womens sports you must drop the same number in mens and still abide by the NCAA d1 rules on the number of sports you play

MCH was making around 200k a year at WKU. She will be making 400k per year at Cincy with a 5 year contract.

100% sure. She got a 5 year deal worth approx 400k a year in annual base salary plus incentives. She was making around 200k a year at WKU.

I was listening to some the sports guys on Nashville radio, and they were complaining about the lack of competitve games in the wbb elite eight and said wbb is broken and needs to be fixed. They were talking too much talent accumulated by a handful of teams. The one thing not brought up was the scholarship numbers. IIRC, wbb teams are allowed two more scholarship players than men's teams are. Make them even with the men's numbers and more talent is spread out more evenly and wbb will be more competitive, but hey that is too much like equality, and title IX was not meant for that.

I did not see this earlier, below came directly from Western's FY 2017-18 Budgeted Salary Information and includes EPAF actions as of January 31, 2017. She might have been making more from private funds..where the 200k number comes from

And for the most part, the rest of the men's sports lose money as well as their women's counterparts. So if you're saying "let's can women's track and field, tennis, and golf while leaving the men's versions intact", then you don't have to be one of those SJW types to see that there's a real issue there.
