I believe the Dukes are still collecting on that 2013 NCAA tournament appearance and the first four win. Doesn’t the NCAA pay out over 6 years? I think in the $150,000 range per year which is one of the largest in the CAA based on the 50% excellence fund criteria.
2013 tourney appearance - 1 share
2013 tourney win - 1 share
2015 tie for first - 1 share
3 shares for years with OOC record better than .500 against D-1 RPI counters

How crazy is that?
Oh, but there are JMUers who don't think that NCAAT win counts.

The money has no bearing on comparing the accomplishment of a true First Round win vs a win in the First Four game. Winning the CAA and getting into the NCAA was a great accomplishment. The money for the game in Dayton was a nice reward. Still doesn't mean beating LIU in the play-in game compares to our other 1st round wins or the other CAA teams that have scored upsets to advance to the Second Round. Seriously, we'd have played a tougher team in the 1st round of the NIT.
The NCAA can call those play in games the "1st round" from now till doomsday. Basketball fans are not fooled. It would be like comparing coaching records in the CAA tournament where one coach has padded their record with numerous victories in the Keener round only to get drilled by top seeds in the quarter finals. Yeah, they may have a ".500" coaching record. But the real world knows that's not an accurate reflection of their coaching success.

Sorry, I was busy counting the $$...come again how deflecting to long-ago NIT wins and other miscellaneous CAA victories has something to do with JMU's current athletic budget?

This is true and I agree. I also agree that JMU is still cashing the annual checks from that win and it probably is close to the amount of $$$ they are getting from a full year of Hoops ticket sales. Last year’s disbursement was $334,000 but reporting doesn’t show how much of that is attributable to JMU’s win and how much is part of the conference sharing formula. That was the last year of the VCU Final Four financial windfall so payments should be much lower this year. Thanks Rams!
Now, are they using it to enhance the basketball program as the NCAA monetary allocation directs? Who knows? Maybe that is part of the mystery money JMU has “raised” for the Union Bank & Trust Center $12 million minimum threshold to start construction.
Spring 2018 is only 2 days away.
Shovels should be going into the ground soon.

My point was, and is, only from an athletic competition standpoint. That was the discussion of the tread when I responded. Anything discussion related to money was brought in by others afterward. No CAA Tournament winning team (other than us) has ever been relegated to the play in game. Thus, being the last team to win an NCAA game from our conference is not really a fair comparison to other CAA teams that have made the Tourney. The CAA usually gets somewhere in the 11-15 range as a seed, and thus make a statement with a win. Not an apples to apple comparison. Beating the 192nd ranked team for the right to get slaughtered by a 1 seed is nothing to hang our hat on and is NOT the same as beating a team in the Round of 64.

You thought JMU was slaughtered by OSU? JMU was beat soundly in the next game, but slaughtered? I remember two JMU freshman playing well in that game, and giving JMU fans (false) hope for the following year. Too bad Nation and Cooke never were able to build on that promise for the next three years for JMU.

It was Indiana. And we were down 21 at halftime, and 60-31 at the 10 minute mark of the 2nd half. Wholesale substitution by IU allowed us to make it more respectable. Our seniors were non factors as AJ, Goins and Devon Moore combined for 9 points. I dearly wanted it to be a competitive game, but they took us out from the get-go.

Fair enough, but the final result was IMO the category of "beat, but not humiliated"...agreed that our Srs. disappeared, but the Frosh were balling.
