RE: New CUSA "television" deal announced.
A lot of the time people aren't at home sitting in front of the tv anymore.
Guess what? Now they can see the games on their phone, ipad, device, etc.

Yes, digital is the future. Streaming on Facebook is not the future. It's bush league.
You do realize what our options were before, right?
If my options are some bootleg site on the Internet or streaming on Facebook, I’ll take the latter.
That doesn't mean what we have now is great, though

The lack of quality announcers and the lack of brightness from the courtside announcers to get away from a playing band during interviews makes a great video broadcast seem 3rd world.

Guess what? My 10 year old daughter and her friends are part of the next generation of recruits. Would you rather I post the numbers showing you that kids are abandoning Facebook for Instagram and other social networks, or are you just going to act like you didn't understand what I was saying?
Edit: Since apparently most people on this board have completely ignored the evidence that Facebook is unpopular with the younger crowd, here's some research for you:
http://business.time.com/2014/01/15/more...ince-2011/ - this article, from 2014, talks about how Facebook had lost 11 million high school and college-aged users between 2011 and 2014. It hasn't gotten better since then.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-...0fb18600ce - 2015 article, Washington Post
https://abcnews.go.com/Technology/teens-...d=20739310 - 2013 article, ABC News
https://theconversation.com/so-long-soci...uare-53274 - 2016 article about social media in general, but it mentions Facebook specifically at times
https://finance.yahoo.com/video/teens-in...59751.html - 2017 video discussing why Facebook's purchase of Instagram was so smart because teens are abandoning Facebook in droves
We could go on and on about this. It's not even up for debate, really. Everyone knows this is happening, including Facebook.

We really need a refresher on when it's OK to bash CUSA and when we have to drink the kool aid and love whatever trash is being shoved down our throats. It's hard to keep track sometimes

Quote:Facebook games will be on Facebook Watch in the US, and on the facebook pages in other countries
Quote:Facebook Watch is a video on demand service operated by Facebook. It was announced on August 9, 2017, with initial availability the day after, and with rollout to all U.S. users by the end of the month. Facebook Watch's original video content is produced for the company by partners, who earn 55% of advertising revenue while Facebook keeps 45%.

You are correct, but recruits watch sporting events. That's very important.

Do you know how to add Facebook Watch to a Roku or a Fire Stick? I'm aware the article mentions Facebook Watch will be used, but I can't find any information online about compatibility with any TV devices. I've searched for "Facebook Watch on Roku," "Facebook Watch on Amazon Fire," "how to get Facebook Watch on your TV," etc etc, and even looked on Facebook Watch's website ( https://www.facebook.com/watch). If the ability to do this exists, they're certainly not making it easy to find. Right now it looks like it operates completely on Facebook over the web. Based on what I can find online, having the games on Facebook Watch is the exact same as having them streamed on Facebook proper in every possible way other than the name of the website at the time you are viewing it. I can't even find any information that suggests Facebook is planning an app for any of the most popular streaming devices, but I guess I could be missing a mention somewhere.

I’m sure ESPN offered us a deal with prime time and all day Saturday games as well. We probably turned it down because we prefer to be on Facebook. This is the problem with the bush league talk. These deals are two way streets and I’m assuming we did the best we could. We entered the market for a new contract at an awful time.

I never said it was great, just better than our previous options. We aren’t in a position of power at the moment, and if the options are watch UAB, or don’t, i would like to watch.

They probably offered money for games that otherwise wouldn't have been picked up at all, so I guess if I'm looking at it that way then this is a win. That just seems like a really defeatist way to look at this to me, but I'm sure this was probably the best offer on the table.

I'm not sure how to respond to that. I look at your comment and can't imagine how someone would think that's an argument for Facebook broadcasts being something to celebrate.

Choice A: Not being able to watch UAB games.
Choice B: Watching UAB games on Facebook.
I suspect, without bothering to run a poll, that choice B wins going away, particularly given that it is free. The tournament games I watched were fairly well produced. The announcing, in general, was somewhere between "sucks" and "bush league", so I think they need to address that, but "watching" and "free" tend to outweigh that. I did put it on mute during almost all timeouts and halftimes, which was helpful.
