[Serious] WSU fans... thoughts on year one?
Now that the picks are in, and we've got the NCAA tourney to look forward to, the majority of the effects seen from moving to the MVC to the AAC have been realized.
What are your thoughts in year one? Good? Bad? Surprising?

RE: [Serious] WSU fans... thoughts on year one?
The lack of coaching support for Marshall was surprising for a lot of shocker fans.
For me, lack of effort midseason was disconcerting. This team lacked effort and had no leadership for a while. Shamet is a fine player but not a leader. There was a time I thought losing anyone would be addition by subtraction.
Hope you enjoyed the lax defense this season. It likely won’t happen next year.

I love the fact that we are challenged in conference, can lose conference games, not win the conference tourney and still make the ncaa tourney and even have a decent seed.

And even then, get a higher seed than you could in the MVC, it seems!

Of course it was a great move. Several potential rivals. Such better programs and cities to visit. I look forward to going to road conference games as often as I can which probably won't be that often.
Great coaches and players.
The season has been somewhat perplexing - or at least some games.

Think it went pretty well. Hard to complain too much. Am I a poor loser? Sure. But show me a good loser and I will show you a....loser. lol
Seriously though. I predicted 4-5 losses for the Shockers. They didn't always come where I thought they would. And I didn't expect ANYONE to only lose 2 games. So that was surprising. Other than that, no real surprises.
Today was the reward. And it felt good.

A 4 seed after losing in the conference semifinals.
3 AAC teams with Top 6 seeds. Injuries kept us from getting 4-5.
I'm happy.
I was disappointed in conference tournament attendance. Looked low-majorish.
I'm surprised how underrated the league is. Now we need to go out and prove it this week.

Conference attendance will be better served in Texas, Memphis, or Tulsa. UCF and USF are football schools, first.
I think once UCF gets a taste of sustained success one of these days, we have the fanbase to show up, but all Florida sports, UCF or USF included, are for the most part fairweather. We need winners to pack the house. Just look at the Jags, Heat, or any other pro team.
The only CONSISTENTLY packed house in Florida are the Tampa Bay Lightning and, lo and behold, they win consistently.

I thought it was a fun year. Conference play was very entertaining and fun. WSU got their 2nd best seed under Marshall, and this is probably one of his worst teams to make the NCAA.
I can see how AAC could be 4-5 seed league if some teams don't have some bad luck.

That still puzzles me. You won a NCAAT game last year, almost upset #2 seed Kentucky, and returned practically everybody, 10 deep, I think. And you were ranked as high as Top 5 this season.
So how can this be one of Marshall's worst teams ever to make the Dance?
Either the league was just tougher, or your team and its coach fell apart for some unexplained reason. Just curious what you think really happened?

I think their fans just thought they were going to waltz in here and walk over everybody. So when that didn't happen they just decided it was because their team isn't very good rather than give credit to the league for being about 2-3 steps up in competition.

McDuffie hasn't been the same since his injury. We lost daishon Smith who wasn't great on offense but was quick on defense. Haynes Jones was his replacement and has completely underachieved. Rauno Nurger has regressed from last year too. Zach brown was our lock down defender last year but has seemed a step slow since he injured his knee early in the year.
Absolutely the conference contributed but we haven't played the same especially on defense

We got spoiled and aren't used to losing...much at all....
Still a very good team. And not the "worst" to make the NCAA tourney. As with everyone else this season will be defined by how we perform in the tourney. Just the way it goes. I still think this team can go quite a ways

Several things.
1. McDuffie because of his injury or something else actually didn't improve and actually took a step back. This was for a guy that some thought had NBA potential.
2. Willis has been suffering from planter fasciatus and his production drooped off.
3. The other thing is this team took a big step back on playing D. It not just because of the league, but they just didn't play to the same level as last year again any level of opponent.
4. Part of the D being worse was due to WSU unexpectantly loosing a juco guard to transfer who created turnovers and had some toughness that Frankamp and Reaves are missing.
5. Finally WSU also lost 2 of their main assistants. Jans went to become HC of NMSt and Heire went to LSU as assistant. WSU didn't seem to make in game adjustements as well as they did last year.

We lost the two assistants who had a shred of in game talent. The lockerroom had an issue that was not made public other than Rashard stepped in to fill the leadership void late in the season. McDuffie has regressed and Zach Brown quit giving a **** until recently.
