First time I have watched either team. I was amazed how great their shooters were. I was also amazed how poorly both teams on played on defense. Both teams allowed each other to get the ball within 5-6 feet of the basket with ease.
My BIL is a born and bred UNC alum so i've watched a fair amount of unc. For the sake of world peace, proverbially, i am super diplomatic about their play but they don't scare me at all. That's not to say if uc and unc played we'd smoke them; but i agree about their D and their rebounding is poor. No box out. They rely on their athleticism.
i feel differently about Duke. They haven't been able to consistently put together two good halves of ball. They have been able to beat teams on sheer talent and athleticism and on occasion they'll put together a good game; but they have legit NBA talent on their roster. Set aside Grayson Allen, who is probably a second rounder at this point, they have Bagley III and Carter, the former being a top 3 player and the latter being a top 15-20 (i believe). i don't think we match up well with superior size so sparty, purdue and Duke are teams i want to avoid. i also want to avoid UVA because of their aggressive D and Nova.
Duke is certainly a perplexing team, they have the talent to win it all however they could lose in the 1st Round which they did in 2012 as a 2 seed or in 2014 as a 3 seed. My Father is a Purdue alum so I watch them and they might have peaked too soon. Purdue was playing great from December until early February however they have leveled off. I agree with you on Sparty UVA, and Nova.
I don’t want to see any if those teams either, but if you are gonna go far you eventually have to play someone. If we end up facaing one of these teams that means we did really well.

For a team that pooped the bed this season, they've caught fire at the right time. Winners of 6 of their last 10 and now have won 4 in a row.

Here are the teams that have punched the NCAAT golden ticket (I love this time of year - College Hoops Nirvana):
Lipscomb (23-9) Atlantic Sun Champ
Radford (22-12) Big South
Michigan (28-7) B1G
Iona (20-13) MAAC
Loyola-Chicago (28-5) Missouri Valley
Murray State (26-5) Ohio Valley
UNC Greensboro (27-7) Southern
Aside from Meechigan winning 9 in a row and will be a tough out, UNC Greensboro is a high seed sleeper based on a few games I've seen them play.

If Cleveland St. wins the Horizon, they are destined for a 16 seed. Every game I have watched them, they have looked pretty good, I have no idea how they ended up losing over 20 games. They could potentially make a 1 seed like XU sweat a little bit.

I'm pulling for Arkansas Pine Bluff in the SWAC this week. After going 0-14 out of conference to start the year (and having people on this board feel bad for them when we pummeled them LOL) they ended up going 12-6 in conference and earned the 1 seed. When we played them I have never seen a team and staff be more energetic and into a game from tipoff to buzzer that they knew they were going to get trounced and then did get trounced. Would love to see them get in The Dance.
Sorta speaking of which....remember all the freaking out and gnashing of teeth about UC's OOC schedule? UC ended up the regular season with the #140 OOC schedule. About 100 spots higher than tournament teams like West Virginia, Michigan, Michigan State, Houston, Texas Tech, Creighton et all and nearly 200 spots higher than schools like Virginia Tech and Florida State.

I feel the exact same way about Pine Bluff. I am rooting for them and Cleveland State to steal a bid this week.
Regarding the non-conference SOS, it is one of my main reasons why I feel UC is ahead of Michigan State and Michigan on the seed line. I have never seen the committee reward teams with sub 200 non conference schedules.

I have a feeling if Wright State wins tonight that the Raiders will be UC's first round opponent next week.

That's very likely. If we're a 2 and they are a 15 bracket procedures would likely have them playing us.

Does anybody else also dislike the pod/regional system like I do? I honestly believe ever since they started doing this they have screwed up the brackets so much trying to fit certain teams in certain regions.

I like the pod system a lot. I don't think they should worry about protecting teams based on location past the first weekend except that the 1 seeds should be placed based on where they are on the S curve with top team going to region closest to it and last one seed going wherever is left. Honestly just do everything by S-curve after the first weekend among the top 4 seeds.

It's good and it's bad. Like a few years ago UC was the highest rated 8 seed. I think because of that they moved them to the closest location to home that a 1 seed had been slotted in. Well that just so happened to be in Louisville with an unbeaten Kentucky team.
So it's nice playing close to home, but UC had the best resume of any 8 seed (according to the committee) and had to play far and away the best team in round 2.

I gotta watch the South Dakota showdown. Crazy how both teams are doing so well this year. South Dakota State won 2 out of 3 in the Cayman tourney we were in earlier this year.
