RE: Marshall Game Thread
So which do you think had the biggest impact on tonight’s outcome?
• The embarrassing beatdown at MTSU
• The week off
• The visit by Andy Kennedy (veteran coach influence we’ve talked about needing)
I tend to lean week off and maybe a little of the outside perspective from Kennedy.

• Shooting the basketball at home against a team that plays less defense than we do.

That was a fun game. Hopefully we can carry that over to Saturday and next week. Great to see Lee be active and Norton being aggressive. 4-6 on threes with 9 assist to zero turnovers. Also Cokely proving again why he's Mr. Efficient with 23 points in 18 minutes.

They didn't have a week off. Their week off was leading up to the MTSU game.
I think it was playing at home and they usually match up pretty well with Marshall.
Looking at the box score, I can't believe Cokley had 23 points in 18 minutes. That's huge productivity.
On the other end, Gueye had 4 fouls in 6 minutes.
Nope, they sure didn't...my bad.
Even being at home and playing Marshall, it just seemed like a switch was flipped. Again, I missed the game, but looking at the play by play, it looked like they were pretty close to the team we thought we were going to have this season. Hopefully not just a flash in the pan...maybe we can get 6 or 7 more wins out of this group.

I would be shocked if Kennedy(as a veteran coach) had much to Do with it at all. The former players being around could have fired the guys up though.
It’s frustrating because at their best this team is pretty damn solid, they just play so inconsistently. Our three starting guards gave us 17 assists and 3 turnovers last night. If we can keep that up, we may be able to make a little run in the tournament. I actually like being on the opposite side of the bracket from MTSU even if it means an extra game and crappier conference finish. As we’ve said from day 1, our season is all about next week.

the stretch where we had a 21-2 run was the best this team has looked all season!

Offensive rebounds and a faster pace. We get easier shots after offensive rebounds, and a faster pace means more possessions, so everyone gets shots up, which means guys are more engaged.

The Blazers or a very good team when its not trapped. You saw what happens when you dont trap this team and allow the guards to flow uninterrupted. The WIngs and Forwards have space to operate, because the team is able to get into their sets or offense full court instead of half court..

Awesome game...they were playing with intensity last night...even when the shots weren't falling. And the crowd was pretty loud to be so small.
Cokely is a special player.
I also loved seeing Lewis getting some solid inside looks when Cokely was out. He may need to focus in on his best finish/shot, but the kid's got heart.

Having watched most UAB games this season, Gueye's main problem is his slight frame. He is in pretty good position most of the time, but the slightest touch sends him flying. As an example, one of his fouls last night was because he was very slightly bumped by the Marshall player when going for the rebound and went flying into another Marshall player. He really needs to put on about 20lbs this off season. He's listed as 6'10", 185lbs. I think the 185 is a stretch.

We played very well last night. When Marshall drew the game close in the second half, we regrouped and pushed the lead back to double digits. We all (players, coaches and fans) needed that win last night.
