Exclamation When is the new Bowl cycle?
College football bowl games are on a 6 year cycle..I think. What is the current one we are in? 2013-2018? 2014-2019?
When are the Bowl conference selections/agreements fof the next 6 year cycle?
Thanks

RE: When is the new Bowl cycle?
The current 6 year bowl cycle is 2014-2019. We are entering year 5 of that bowl cycle.

I would imagine we should hear some discussion about non-CFP bowl realignment by this summer. Typically the P5 decides where they want to go with bowls and then the G5 finishes up agreements.

I'm hoping the AAC can get the Liberty back.
I'm also wondering if the PAC and its 2 Texas ties (Sun & Alamo) get severed.

When has the AAC ever had the Liberty?

BB777,

I don't think the Liberty wants to give up the SEC or B12. I have a feeling there will not that drastic of changes from the current line-up. Only thing I could see there being more ACC/B10 type of deals like the Jacksonville/Nashville bowl games with other conferences. That helps with different locations.

Bowls don’t want changes leaked. They don’t want last year conference x is in the game stories

RE: When is the new Bowl cycle?
I am nervous about the future of the Heart of Dallas Bowl. Last season the Big12 and PAC12 took it from C-USA. Their attendance for that game was terrible, just 20K showed up to watch Utah and West Virginia. About half the number that showed up to watch North Texas play Army in 2016. It is my understanding that we have it back this season, but their is no telling what will happen when contracts get renewed.

Watch for Las Vegas to dump the Mountain West for another P5 to join the Pac-12. It's likely to be the B1G of BXII, but I wouldn't be surprised if the SEC, especially with the new stadium coming on to take that slot.

Given the Sun Belt's place in college football's hierarchy, I'm okay with the Sun Belt's current bowl lineup. I do hope the Arizona Bowl gets replaced with one farther east.

It would be nice if P5 leagues we're more willing to let their lower rung teams play upper level G5's in bowl games, but the trend sadly is going the other way.

Until quite recently. We had the bowl from the 1990’s until recently, then again last season. We were called CUSA back then if this a semantics game.

Does the PAC-12 then pull a switcharoo and trade the MWC the LV Bowl slot for the Holiday Bowl?

If the SEC is in the LV Bowl then would they be out of the Independence?

I also like the Sun Belt’s line up but I’d be all for snatching the Frisco bowl from CUSA and giving them the Arizona bowl. That way there are two western bowls for the SBC west to fight for and three eastern bowls for the SBC east to fight for.

RE: When is the new Bowl cycle?
For the Big 12, the current bowl lineup is weighted more towards the SEC and PAC 12. I wouldn’t mind seeing a Bowl pool with say the Belk or Music City Bowl to get more ACC and Big 10 opponents. I don’t know if the Orlando Bowl has been good for the conference or not, so that may be up in the air.

So, is the AAC the former Big East or the former CUSA? I’m confused! ?

I don't mind the ACC bowl lineup, but it would be nice to have another dome. Why isn't there a bowl in Indianapolis?

Both.
9 out of the 12 AAC teams were in CUSA recently. (2 left CUSA for BE in 05) Those 9 were invited to the Big East and joined the Big East in 2013-2014....then the conference split with the basketball only schools leaving but keeping the Big East name.

*When Tulsa was invited I can’t remember if our lineup was still called the Big East or if the name AAC was already in use.

The SEC really doesn't travel well west. They literally have a full slate of bowls within their own geographic footprint, so there's no real desire for them to go any further west than Texas. The Midwestern Big Ten and Big 12 schools, on the other hand, have disproportionately large alumni bases in Las Vegas and those Midwestern markets also disproportionately send a lot of vacationers to Vegas considering the distance and population sizes. The Vegas location is tailor-made for a Pac-12 vs. Big Ten or Big 12 matchup. However, the main hitch is that both the Big Ten and Big 12 will almost certainly insist upon the Vegas bowl moving to a post-Christmas date (which drives up the cost of attending that bowl significantly). They're just not willing to have a pre-Christmas bowl in the way that the Pac-12 has done because the Big Ten and Big 12 have a lot more bowl options coast-to-coast with prime dates.
