Alligators will sometimes enter brackish water but not saltwater.
More importantly the book says specifically crocodile and Disney calls it "Tick tock the Croc"
This discussion reminds me of the time that the Florida Gators media guide had a photo of a crocodile on the cover instead of a gator.
The only thing that upsets Florida fans more than a crocodile on the front of that media guide is having Ron Zook on the cover of that media guide.

Like Kareem Abdul Jabbar?!
Players watch and copy what NBA players do and they don't care what some dumb*** old coach tells them about developing skills they don't see on TV. You are running out of U18 coaches who even know what a hook shot is so it isn't even getting taught.
Look at how many atrocious free throw shooters there are. Virtually all could boost their FT percentage if they shot granny style but it ain't cool to shoot in a style called granny so screw your team over and screw your own stats over by missing conventional style.
Skyhook was seen a lot on TV in the 80s.

The hand check almost killed basketball. It was a great game until Big East brawlball took over.

The play under the rim in the SEC has been extremely physical this year and the officiating very hit and miss where containing the physicality comes into play.
I have a fear that the first round of tournament play is going to see very different enforcement of that than our guys have gotten thus far this year. They'll have to be a lot of mid game adjustments.
Your comment about Big East Brawlball is exactly what my wife and I have commented on while watching many of the SEC contests this year. We get touch fouls called on the perimeter, and trench warfare in the paint.

The SEC is going to get a good number of bids for this tournament, yet, I wouldn't be surprised if any of them make it to the Sweet 16 because of stuff like that (neutral court is concerning, too). Guys will get in trouble early, and then it's up to the bench. Be worried about pairings against conferences where the officiating is more tight; coaches will be all over the officials lecturing them why it's not okay for the contact.

RE: What killed the hook?
Easy question. Shooting threes is cool, so everyone, including the tall kids want to do it. Shoot a hook shot isn't cool. Shooting a hook shot looks dorky to a lot a kids and they won't even try it. Add that to the fact that AAU programs do anything to recruit the best players/athletes. They let the kids do what is cool and don't try to teach them skills that could make them better players. Not going to tell your 7-0 footer that he can't shoot threes, because your seven footer will just go to a different program. Finally, the coaching at the AAU level stinks. I doubt 95% of AAU could teach a hook shot.
Heard Bill Wennington, the old St. John's great, on the radio last week. He indicated that Kareem would be a much bigger star in today's NBA. As dominant as he was in his prime, his hook shoot would be unstoppable against today's players, especially the bigs, who lack the strength and bulk of players in the past.
