Any chance Houston stays in top 25 after that huge win plus Florida State getting thrashed by NC State?

hey, I'm proud of my team and Tubby's Tigers...they aren't five-star talents but they fight through adversity and are a likable bunch. It's very easy to root for kids like these and a honest coach like Tubby, esp when you read the news stories about guys like Pitino/Miller.

I actually think Tubby is a decent coach. Would anyone believe a team with what 2 players coming back from last season and a hodgepodge of transfers and what not that he would win 20+ games this season. Now I agree he isn’t the best recruiter and mayn’t isnt the best fit for Memphis but he can coach. His teams have grit and heart and you can see it in this team. He should have gutted the team in year one and avoided the Lawson clown show and he would probably be further along.

Looking at the results for the week, I actually think there is a shot. I only see two potential teams jumping UH. Kentucky and Middle Tennessee. It will be interesting to see what happens come tomorrow.

after the florida state loss itll be close...houston was 200 points over the next team at 24 and 25...25 lost, though not technically ranked, 26, 28, 29, 30 all lost

ketucky #27 gets in but they can get the spot of florida state

if i was a betting man i think we stay top 25

So initially I thought there was no chance of UH staying in the top 25, however after looking through the results from this week I'm not sure anymore. The only teams receiving multiple votes that won both their games this week are Kentucky (33 votes), St. Bonaventure (13 votes), TCU (4 votes), Loyola-Chicago (2 votes), and Butler (2 votes). Every other team receiving multiple votes in the AP poll lost at least one game. Several lost two. Kentucky is for sure moving into the rankings but I doubt the A10 is deemed worthy of getting a second team in the top 25. The other three teams have quite a bit of ground to make up (UH received 263 votes last week). Frankly I think Creighton has a better chance of cracking the rankings next week despite losing to Butler, because that win over Villanova is huge. 2 other teams to watch would be Miss St. (21-8, 3 game win streak) and NCST (20-9, 4 game win streak). Neither team was receiving votes last week but both teams had good weeks and I expect to see them close to the bottom 25. So its certainly possible the voters might just move UH to #25. However if I were to lay a guess at what will actually happen I'd say Kentucky takes Houston's spot at #23, Middle Tennessee will hold at #24, and either TCU or Creighton will take the last spot. After that the next five should be some order of Arkansas, Miss St., NCST, St. Bonaventure, and UH.

yup...you don't pull off a band-aid slow or it hurts more. Just pull it off in one stroke and be done with it.

That said he walked into a bad situation and tried to make lemonade out of a whole family of salty, sour lemons...and I mean that in the nicest way possible lol

ECU ought to just throw in the towel when it comes to playing basketball.

Hire Andy Kennedy as HC, keep Perry as Assoc. HC, plus I bet Andy will bring his lead recruiter at Ole Miss and former Memphis player Tony Madlock along.

ECU would get good and quickly.

Amazing to think ECU played a much closer game in football than in basketball.

Except the fan base would have tried to hang him even earlier. In their minds, Tubby is guilty of running off the Lawsons, guilty of not recruiting anybody, guilty of losing to ECU, guilty of not doing PR work with the media, and guilty of not beating cupcakes by larger scores.

In my mind, he sucks as a recruiter, but that should not be a surprise. The Lawsons caused a lot of the disruption last year, and some transfers beside themselves.

It was a minor miracle that Tubby was able to put together the #1 recruiting class in the AAC for 2017 in a matter of a few days, actually. Yeah, part of it was volume, but the average per player was close to the top, as well.

Jamal Johnson, a freshman, was the highest ranked recruit in the AAC. Davenport and Brewton were Juco All-Americans. Parks has turned out to be great. Thornton has improved and contributes.

What I see is a much less talented Memphis squad than what we have seen in most years, but one that plays together as a team, never quits, and has improved greatly form the beginning of the season.

They are easy to cheer for, and to me, that makes it fun.

Looks like Memphis-Tulsa (in some order) in the 4-5 spot.

Wichita has the tiebreaker on Houston and Houston has the tiebreaker on Tulsa, so Houston will almost certainly be the 3 seed.

UCF/Temple will be in the 6-7 spot. Too early to tell which.

Finally, either SMU, UConn or maybe Tulane as the 8. SMU is the favorite here.

Can Tubby recruit at a level to get Memphis back to where they need to be? Who knows? But the man can absolutely coach.

no

our best hope now is that some school in the FBI investigation is looking for a clean cut "name" coach and TS leaves to go there.

Perhaps a few recruits will fall into his lap due to ramifications of the FBI investigation. Otherwise, Tubby has failed to date to pluck a single recruit from the Memphis area cornucopia and has only one lowly rated (albeit intriguing) player signed now for next season.

The color announcer is usually part of the coaching fraternity and he loathes turning on his peers. It is more agreeable to their sensibilities to blame fans for impatience when it is clear Ollie and Tubby (relative to past success and available infrastructure) have each underachieved.

Some very frustrated "Memphis fans"

Wonder what they will be saying next year when Tubby takes them dancing.

But he doesn't recruit Memphis!!1

Which is really all they have been saying since Tubby was hired.

Yes you guys seem to be adopting the culture of Tubby. You do it the right away and you do it as a team.

Wait #1 class? #1 recruit? Juco All-Americans?
Tubby can't recruit.
