You guys know that to the people that have truly researched the topic what you've said sounds to them just like "we need to close the gun show loopholes on assault weapons" sounds to you right? You're arguments hold about as much water in an actual debate about the changing climate as the arguments people put forth to show that the earth is flat.
But I don't want to derail this thread into a debate about climate change. The OP brought up an important point about people in this country talking out their asses about things they know **** about. I think it goes into our "snowflake" culture where people are taught that their opinions matter and therefore everybody feels like they need an opinion about everything. And they defend it till the end regardless of facts or whether it even matters if they opine on the subject. I've seen people on Facebook screaming about the constitution and who is abusing it and I think, I was in high school with you. You were in my Civics class. You were a D student at best. It's annoying as hell but beyond that it' I worry the effects it'll have on our society. We're all guilty of it of course but if we don't stop and listen or just take a look at ourselves and what we're doing, mostly just arguing for the sake of it, then we're ****** as a country. Because our collective misinformation is moving at the speed of light these days and shapes the "national debate" and you see the same dumb ass arguments made on the six o'clock news as the D student on FB. We're getting dumber because we can't admit our ignorance.
I admit I don't know much about guns, what's worse is I own two. I've talked to a coworker who is a big hunter/gun enthusiast he expresses the same exact frustrations as the OP. I also know a Climate Scientist at UC Boulder, he is certainly frustrated at the misinformation and ignorance that is spread in his feild of study. I could invite him here and have him tell you why your full of ****, he's long winded af.

Well, except for the fact that unlike the facts behind the gun issue being clear climate science isn't. You can look long and hard to find a gun expert to prove that semiautomatics are really automatics and fail. It doesn't take much searching to find a scientist involved in climate study who disagrees with the man made climate change theory.

Yes, it is.
Dr, Sallie Baliunas, Dr Timothy Ball, Dr Murry Salby, and Dr Don Easterbrook (and many others) would disagree with you.
Remember also that we’re dealing with a generation who has never been told no by anyone in authority, has safe spaces, and got a trophy even when they lost. These little idiots think they’ll stomp their feet and the rest of the country will just give up their guns. Most may get their 1st real life civics lesson when they demand people’s gun rights be restricted and that doesn’t happen. It’ll be a joy to watch.
Read 2A and weep you laundry detergent eating morons.

I think the OP's observations are quite accurate. There's almost always a knee-jerk reaction to such events and yet when questioning those who are loudest calling for restricting our rights over gun ownership, they don't know which end of the barrel the round comes out of.
I wish I could find that anti-gun poster I once saw showing a rifle being fired and the entire cartridge was leaving the end of the barrel.
It must have been one of those new missile guns. *

Quote:Here’s a video of a 5.56mm caliber round ― the kind used in many assault-style rifles ― being fired into ballistic gel meant to mimic human flesh. You can see how a single shot inflicts massive trauma, regardless of where it hits the target.
Ballistic gel is not a good comparison to human flesh. Well maybe if you are comparing it to putrefied flesh that can be easily torn by hand.
(Hope they don't shoot the same style block of gel with a .30-06. They'll really **** their pants)
Quote:The average price of an assault-style rifle fluctuates somewhat with supply and demand. Online distributors currently offer versions for under $200
Absolute horseshit.
Quote:This includes high-powered weaponry like the AK-style rifles used in 2015 by the Planned Parenthood shooter in Colorado Springs, or the gunman who attacked a military recruitment center in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The only people who think an AK-47 is "high powered are absolute idiots who don't know firearms.
Quote:California, for example, has banned AR-15s and other rifles with detachable magazines, which allow shooters to quickly reload. However a recent feature called a “bullet button” allows magazines to be quickly replaced, while still technically remaining fixed, rendering this law largely ineffective.
Bullet buttons followed California law to the letter. California law stated that magazines could not be released from a rifle without the use of tools. Bullet button required the use of a tool.
Shocked they put this in the article since it blows holes in the rest of their argument:
Quote: A 2004 study by the University of Pennsylvania found that while the ban did result in a measurable reduction in crimes involving assault weapons, crimes involving non-banned guns remained steady or increased.
“We cannot clearly credit the ban with any of the nation’s recent drop in gun violence,” concluded the study. “There has been no discernible reduction in the lethality and injuriousness of gun violence, based on indicators like the percentage of gun crimes resulting in death or the share of gunfire incidents resulting in injury.”
Settled science *******!
Thanks for proving the premise of the thread correct Ohio Poly!

I had the same thing happen... Someone said "military guns", I asked them which military had standard issue semi automatic rifles...

No more than red Diana DeGette not knowing magazines are reusable...
"These are ammunition, they are bullets, so the people who have those now, they're going to shoot them, so if you ban them in the future, the number of these high capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won't be any more available."
The loudest in the anti gun movement are hilariously ignorant of how a gun works.

To say *ANYBODY* is denying the climate changes is the king of all strawmen
Now.... Can you stick to the topic of this thread?
"Weapons Of War" - No nation issues semi-automatic weapons like the AR15 as their standard military issue. It is not a weapon of war.
If they got the headline this wrong, then I can't imagine they got much right in the article.
But I decided to give it a chance and right off the bat..
Quote:Renowned firearms engineer Eugene Stoner developed the first AR-15, or ArmaLite Rifle (hence the “AR”), in the late 1950s, using advances in technology and materials to revolutionize battlefield weaponry. Stoner’s rifle was marketed to national militaries interested in a lightweight firearm with precision accuracy and high lethality at long range. Colt Manufacturing Co. eventually purchased ArmaLite and convinced the U.S. military to replace the M-14 with its M-16, which employed many of the advances in the AR-15.
Notice the big bait and switch there...It went from a guy *trying* to sell the AR15 to military to someone taking some aspects of its design, building a whole new gun around them, and then selling the M16...
The M16 is the weapon of war, not the AR15.

To be fair the gun that became the M16 was originally called the AR15. When Colt came up with the platform that is the current AR15 they adopted the name to honor it. Much like today's Dodge Challenger the AR15 of today shares cosmetic similarities to the predecessor with the same name but internally it's completely different.
