Well in this thread the Marshall fans are touting that at least 2 of their players should be first team all conference (Elmore and Burks). A third player Peneva might also deserve to be on the first team because he is leading the nation in blocked shots. They strongly believe that Elmore should be the POY in the conference, and their coach runs a very special offensive system that no one in the league can handle "when it is clicking". Amazingly after all of those superlatives, Marshall is somehow mired in 4 place in C-USA. Go figure.

Nick King should win. I think Cokely is a better player, but his production has fallen off a little in the last couple games due to his back injury and he's on a team in 6th place. Not sure how effective he'll be in these last three games.

Hehe. Elmore got his. But couldn't throw down the clutch shots at the end.

I mean, both Elmore and Burks scored 24 pts in 39 minutes of play. Elmore recorded 11 assists and 2 steals, though combined they both also turned the ball over 10 times. Penava also scored 14 points off of 38 minutes of play, and left with 3 assists, 5 blocks, and only 2 TO. Weirdly enough, both Penava and Elmore went 0-5 from 3pt range. Outside of those three, no Herd players had double digits in points or major statistical performances (outside of Williams who had 4 blocks).

In contrast, ODU's entire starting lineup had double figures, though only 4 points were scored from off the bench... Caver also had a whopping 8 turnovers this game.

That’s why King is POY.
We’ve been in those games and he’s made the winning plays.

Elmore... GAAAAACCCCKKK

Only thing King has going for him is best player on best team. Elmore stats better, more complete player, out played him head to head, better NBA prospect. On the court,Not even close.

The race is going to come down to King and Elmore. They are the two best players that have been consistent throughout the entire season.

Your delusion is disturbing. More complete player? You can't be serious. Get the impression you haven't watched a single MT game except one.

The more I watch Elmore the more I realize he is a one trick pony. Drive and either get fouled, dish and sometimes get free layups. What's he shooting from outside now?

Frankly Antwan Johnson has more skill set than Elmore, because he can actually drive and also step back and drop it from outside. He would probably average 30 a game in Marshall's system.

There is no possible way that Elmore is the best player in conference. He is very good at driving to the basket and drawing fouls but his numbers are inflated due to number of possessions hes played. He doesnt play defense at all. His team is 4th, at best. There is really no conceivable justification for him being POY.

You have to either be the best player in the conference or the best player on the beat team.

Put the better offensive players from ODU, WKY, and MTSU in that system and they would average 20-25 points with the ability to drive down and shoot before establishing any offensive set and no need to play defense.

My vote is King. Elmore had the chance to put ODU to sleep at home with a couple of shots and the end and he bricked them both. Elmore is a great player, I hope you all realize we agree with that much. But he's not the best player in the conference.

Ok here we go again with “system and pace of play”. Do you realize that King averages more shots a game than Elmore(slightly) and much greater usage %? I forgot to mention that Elmore has the opinion of NBA scouts and experts on his side, but King has opinion of “fans” . But I’m “delusional”. Haters gonna hate.
I want to make clear that I have great respect for King and MTSU team and program, just that Elmore is POY.

Everyone is partially delusional in some way, I mean we are all here on a sports message board discussing something 100% out of our control. But I will just point out, I don't think I've seen anyone from any other fanhood besides Marshall suggesting Elmore should be POY unless I missed it. We all have our biases but sometimes you just need to zoom out and try to see it from another perspective.

I’m with you 09, we all bring biases to table and entitled to our opinion. Thanks for the civil discourse. I mentioned on another thread, ODU excellent team, difference this year is offense good too? “Fan” short for fanatic. As you might have guessed, I’m a huge MU and Elmore fan.

Well the newspaper in Huntington thinks POY is Elmore 1a. and Burks 1b......Bowling Green beat writers don't show such obvious homerism when it comes to that...

I also understand the argument and do not believe that MU has 3 first team all conference players. As mentioned such a team would obviously be undefeated in conference. I didn’t think it was right when they put both Evans and Koulechov(?) of Rice on first team last year from a 5th place team. More appropriate that all 3(Elmore, Burks, Penava) on one of 3 teams.
