The best scorers this conference has ever seen all played in the AAC for only one year: Russ Smith, Shabazz Napier and Sean Kilpatrick. Not really sure that point is debatable...

We're Norvell leaving and one bad coaching hire from being awful again in football. We were pretty lousy for a long time so I'll enjoy that ride as long as it lasts. The basketball program is historically much stronger than football and you see how quick Tubby Smith has run it into the ground.

Work on factual.
You're in Tulsa and clueless about anything Memphis basketball related.

I know your program finished with 18 and 19 wins under Pastner, and tied for 5th and then 7th with under .500 conference record.
Tubby won 19 and lost fewer games then either of Pastner's last two years, was 5th and had a .500 conference record.
With eleven new players he is in 6th and one game out of 5th and a game and a half out of 4th. Will probably win 18-19 games.
Not really a downward trend there.
You know where you do see a sharp downturn? After Pastner's first class graduated.
One coach has won every where he has gone and done rebuilds. One turned in a similar season to the previous coach, now a losing season and conference beat downs.
But yeah Tubby ran your program into the ground

Wow. TrollU4ever has really made a mess in here - gone straight over a cliff it seems. I presume his passion-filled libby tirade getting absolutely crushed in the Florida shooting thread has tilted him even more. Fasten your seatbelt Memphis fan; this kid is out for redemption and he's bound and determined to get it through Tubby.

You just can't help yourself can you? Everything has to be a personal attack. You weren't that funny win Wichita was winning and now it seems to be nothing but cries for attention.
Try staying focused on topics and stop attacking posters.

I don't disagree that the downward trend started w/ Josh. Tubby has accelerated it off the cliff. If he stays, next year will be a blast once a few of our current players transfer and Tub brings that #300 something ranked recruit. Another exciting non-conference schedule of 200+ RPI teams, crowds of 2000 at the Forum, and another 7th -10th place finish in AAC. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Is that a surprise? We are 1-5 without our 2nd best player and 0-4 without our 2 best players. We aren't built to be down 3 players (including your best 2) when you only have 10 scholarship players.
Don't think many AAC teams with 12-13 scholarship guys would fair better @Tulsa, @UH, UC, Memphis minus their best two players. Some teams might go 1-3.
We will be lucky to get to 8-10 in conference if Shake doesn't come back.

Past performance is not a guarantee of future performance but Tubby has had every school he coached at in the Dance by year three. Also you may see some transfer out, but it will be because Tubby is recruiting over them. 11 of your 13 scholarship players are new this year, so they are Tubby guys. Martin graduates so who does that leave to want to get out?
I can't say much about recruiting because Tubby is more of a talent selector than a recruiting magnet but his players get wins and dance invitations, many have performed at all conference levels.
We'll have to wait and see how they finish to see if you are right on the rinse and repeat. Another fifth finish would leave it undecided, sixth or worse would definitely be an indicator towards you being right.

Excellent point.
And so is Gary Clark which makes us Cincy fans eternally grateful.
The right coach at ECU wouldn't have let that kid get away. The right coach is going to get our share of those guys in NC, we honestly don't even need to leave the state to field an NCAA caliber team imo.
I've argued all you have to do at ECU is stay in NC and consistently offer the local kids with VCU, ODU, UNCW, Charlotte, and C of C type offers. Beat those teams out more times than not on local kids. They will stick together and you will have a quality upper tier AAC product. A lot of these kids if they wait till the spring they are headed to places like Clemson, Wake, or NCSU.
Joe Dooley will get us to middle of the league next year assuming we don't suffer huge roster depletion.

Martin is a junior and here's a surprise -- he is far an away our best player, he is a local kid, and wasn't a Tubby recruit. He might be a grad transfer candidate, but he isn't a senior. The "Tubby recruits over them" comment made me LOL. He just lost out on yet another local kid (Tyler Harris) and has nobody even close to that level of player even considering Memphis. But we have the #300 something ranked kid signed up for next year and nobody else.
95% of Memphis fans are fed up with him. A couple of the large $$ boosters may be in that group. We can only hope.

Well thank God they actually play the games instead of using paper recruit rankings to decide things.
Tubby will not be recruiting local kids unless they come with a fantastic reputation off the court, like damn near eagle scout. The Larson ordeal was too big an issue. This is the root of the Tubby hate, he won't recruit local kids. That won't change for another year or two.
I guess Martin was wishful thinking, that kid is a problem for any opposing team. It strengthens my feeling you will be a tourny team next year, like every school Tubby has coached at.
